I've heard that some HP laptops have issues with wireless pc cards.

Anyone deal with netgear and HP pavilions?

Is it worth getting 802.11b? i will use it for home (1.5Mbit) & campus (T3)
should i get 802.11g? is that BETTER somehow?

Did you not get the wireless option with your ZV5000? I haven't heard any problems with Netgear & HP systems. There was an issue a couple users had with Linksys cards & their HP notebooks.

The Wireless B standard can transfer files at a max speed of 11Mbits/s, while the G standard can transfer files at a max speed of 54Mbits/s. You may not get the full speed of 54Mbits, a lot of factors involved.

For your home use, B is fine, but if you plan on sending a lot of files (networking), then the faster the transfer speed the better.

    Hey Fusion,

I've actually had issues with my HP ZX5000 pavilion laptop and my netgear router (WR814 v2). Posted a couple months ago, but I never did resolve it. For some reason, it just won't work with my wireless card. So I ended up purchasing a linksys router and it works great.

The odd thing is, my brother also has an HP pavilion laptop but a different wireless card and was using the netgear just fine. I'm guessing there might be some compatibility issues with my wireless card, broadcom 802.11b, and the netgear router.

    But I'm no expert. =)

    Fusionacid,
I don't think Linksys router is the best but I'm using with my zx5000 Linksys WRT54G and I have always 48 or 54 speed (from 8-10 feet)so I think it is good and hope will work for you.
