oh man i never knew 8510p had this much problems, i mean i thought the vpu crash was serious enough. im beginning to regret buying this laptop, if only i researched more about its dilemmas.

its such a good notebook but whats the point when it has so much problems its beginning to become really irratating. I asked if the support staff if they were aware of such problems such as the vpu crash but they reluctantly said no, and now im waiting for hp to call me back to talk about a replacement laptop. talking to hp can also be very time consuming it takes so long, i mean i talked to them for about 3 hours, and now i have to wait for them to call me back!

basically my problem if i haven't mentioned is the display driver not responding. i know many of you who have the same problems. i also heard about people replacing theirs but unfortunately there was no fix

so my question is should i replace this laptop? im contemplating on the possibility that if i do i will end up with a unit much more worst than mine. i heard other users complaining about the fan and more vpu crashes that end up in a blue screen. my problem isnt that bad, but the vpu does crash so often and varies more especially gaming.

you think i should go for it? or just wait until hp will finally do something about it? i just hate the possibility of receiving a worst unit and also the 15 wait until recieving it.

it seems that every unit is plague with a problem.

I just returned my HP dv6233se for repair and it came back even worse. I complained and gave them h3ll. So now I asked for a replacement unit and they are already in the process of building me one.

So I say, go for the new replacement. Just stress that it has to be new. Tell them that you do not want a refurbished version. Let them know that if you find out it's refurbished, they better replace the notebook again and this time with a better machine.

Just be firm with them, but polite. Don't give in and let them know what you want and how frustrating it is. Tell them how important the notebook is for you to have it right away.

Get the new notebook. If you decide to send it in for repair, you might end up with a notebook that's not repaired at all or comes back even worse. They did not even repair mine and they said they were unable to "replicate" the problem, so they sent it back un-repaired and damaged with scratches on the lid.

If the VPU crash is the only thing that's actually wrong, then I wouldn't send it in. I say actually because the fan really is programed to be on almost all the time, it sucks, I know. The reason why I suggest not sending it in is because this seems to be a huge problem, so you are likely to get another that crashes. It feels like I'm the only one on here who hasn't had those crashes after the HP update. So just hang on to it, hopefully, they'll do a mass recall and fix the GPU. Something tells me that this problems stems from them severely underclocking the card. I don't know why, but that's my guess. Plus, it would probably take a while to do the exchange.

thanks jin, ive tried that one, and the problem still persist. i suggest people who have this problem get it modded at driverheaven.com and then install the newer ati drives. it doesnt completely solve the problem but it does make the vpu crash less frequent.

i think im just going to keep mines and wait until hp does something, but having the thought of getting a replacement with no bugs at all is tempting me. at the same time i don't want to end up with a worse laptop and regreting the decision

it seems that more people have this problem oppose to people who dont.

just curious who in this forum does have a problem free 8510p, although it would be understandable that people who go to these forums mostly post about problems.

I honestly don't have any actual problems with mine. The only thing that bugs me is the fan, but that's HP's problem for setting some weird times for the fan to kick in.

I know quite a few people with problem free 8510ps, myself included. Two friends to whom I recommended the laptop both bought one and haven't had any problems either.

I think because everyone comes on here looking for help, it makes the problem seem way bigger than it actually is. I admit this is a serious issue and I hope HP fixes it ASAP, but I wouldn't say the 8510p line as a whole is crippled by it.

PS: I had to send my old laptop in for repairs a few times, so I completely sympathize and I know exactly what everyone is going through, and it really, really sucks.
