Cany anyone tell me what happened? After asking all the questions I needed to buy a laptop, HP/Compaq raises the prices of the V2000 and DV1000 by $50 today. I thought that prices should drop not rise. Are there any coupons that I can use to knock the price down? It is the principle of paying more.

there can be many reasons for a price increase, it's possible there's a lot of demand for these notebooks. Wait until next week to see what prices do, Intel will cut prices on its current chips and release new ones, that should bring a price drop.

Thanks for the reassurance. I was just about to buy it too. Now I have to wait a few weeks. If I had bought it for $50 more, knowing my luck it would have dropped $150 after I received it. I seriously considered the Dell 8600 this evening for that stupid stunt of theirs.

But I think HP also reduces the price for the upgrades of WinXP Pro and the Bright View option, by the total of $50...

DELL IS OFFERING $500 OFF the8600, 700m and 600m. I am SERIOUSLY forgetting HP/Compaq for that.

I called HP and they said that they were increasing the prices based on "supply and demand". Well, I DEMAND a LOWER price and they will have to SUPPLY some other person to pay the extra $50. In a competetive market that fluctuates and where technology price drops are commonplace, I can look elsewhere....

I found after I ordered a DV1000, they actually lowered the prices on a few upgrades. (this was 1st week in Jan). I upgraded to a faster hard drive and a blue-tooth enabled wireless card, and it saved me $80 over what I had already ordered. I had to refuse delivery of the one I'd already ordered and order another one, but it was worth it. I saved enough to make it worth it.

I had such a bad experience with Dell, that I don't care how much they lower their prices, I won't buy one from them.

It appears that they have lowered the price of the HP, with a free 6 cell battery and free upgrade to the DVD/CD-RW. These roller coaster rides are killing me. I am going to see what the new Dell deal is on Tuesday....

If you are a Costco member, they are going to be featuring the DV1000 as a special one-week discount of $150 off beginning the week of Jan 31st. The price may still be cheaper buying it online, expecially if you are in a state where HP doesn't charge sales tax.
