When I ordered my x6000 in March I didn't think I would have a need for a DVD burner, so I saved $50 with the standard optical drive. Now I have a need for one, so I'm thinking about upgrading. I know how to replace the drive, but I have some other questions:
1. Since the NEC ND-6450 was the DVD burner option at the time I ordered my x6000, I assume the new ND-6650 will fit perfectly. But I'm also looking at a Pioneer DVR-K05, which has a slot-fed mechanism unlike the tray method used by most others. Are all these "slim" burners interchangeable, and can I assume the single screw that holds the optical drive in the x6000 will be a match for all slim drives?
2. I believe the optical drive on the x6000 is the slave drive, with the HD as the master. Can I assume all these slim drives have jumpers or other means of changing Master/Slave?
Does anyone have any idea if this drive will work in the x6000, and has anyone any experiences with it? I understand it is the standard drive in Mac notebooks, and is priced about the same as NEC, Sony, and Toshiba, the only other brands of slim drives I'm aware of. Since I've seen no reviews of these slim drives, I have no idea about the questions above or which is the most reliable.

Slimline drives are interchangable. Buy the Pioneer. Make sure you have a #0 Phillips screwdriver (tiny).

The burn quality on the NEC is superior to any other laptop burner I have seen, but they don't have a slot loading NEC. I haven't seen a newer Pioneer though.
