I bought some HP XP restore DVDs.
If I use these restore discs for XP, will it ask me for an XP key?
[I dont have one cos the lapppy originally had Vista..]

if it did, then they should give you
also mostly because micro doesn't want it pirated....
anyway i think you can find keys at your comp -
Which computer model are the Restore DVD's for?
I doubt you would have to enter any serial with the restore DVD's.

I have a NEW v6000t and I ordered the discs from HP

Why would you want XP restore discs if your laptop came with Vista?
-
A) Vista's still not as stable as Windows XP in rare cases.
B) Some apps compatibility problem which are (i think) mostly ironed out.
C) The annoying UAC.
D) Legendary XP driver compatibility. -
A. This Vista machine is as stable as my XP Pro rig, and more stable then my Media Center XP SP2 rig by a MILE.
B. I have had very very few compatibility issues with my Vista rig. Far less then i did on my first XP rig.
C. You can disable UAC if you don't want the added protection. It is quite simple.
D. See B. Vista is extremely backwards compatible.
I would have to believe you don't use Vista and are speaking second hand from reading what people who have botched their Vista upgrades are saying. It is exactly the same as when you loaded XP over ME... Just like I did. What kind of moron would load XP over ME? The same kind that is loading Vista over XP then bi***ing about it.
No offense intended. I was just as nervous as everybody else was when Vista first came out. I even learned what I would need to do to run a dual boot set-up, just so i could continue my DVD backups, and my GPS. But all my fears have been crushed. Vista has been very solid in my few weeks with it. I really like it, and I am getting irritated with people throwing Vista around like it is the anti-Christ, when in reality it is just the people installing it who have no right to be installing it. It's like blaming Remmington for the kid who shoots himself in the foot. -
In my case I have external legacy hardware, so Vista will never have drivers.
These laps came with XP, then Vista later, so I just need the XP version.
