i've got an older dv6000z series model with an x2 tl-50 cpu. how many of you with a similar machine are experiencing the temps rising, eventually hitting 60+ celsius and turning the fan on, even when there is no load on the cpu? background services and processes are at a minimum, and the power management is on a laptop/power saver equivalent.
i've searched and some seem to have this problem, some don't. just want to get a clear answer as to whether this is supposed to be a common/normal occurrence.

You probably just need to blow it out. Disassemble the back and give it a good go with some canned air.

hmm well, i recently did disassembled the laptop, and neither the vents, fins, nor the fan seemed to be populated with dust. unless i'm not looking in the right places, i am at a loss.
oh and i should note that my ambient temp is prob around 72 deg F.

The temp will rise until it trips the fan threshold, which can vary between BIOS revisions, at which point the fan should halt and reverse the temp unless you're really hammering the CPU. 55C is common, sometimes it's a little higher, and the fan usually shuts off at 50C. I wish HP would provide a way to configure the threshold in the BIOS but they don't.
