I've had my nx8220 pretty much the same spec as you're looking at for about a month now. I love it to bits. The Hi-Res really rocks.

I haven't got an extended warranty yet, but would like to as I have insured the notebook for 3yrs so I would like a warranty just as long.

Any gripes about it? I only have one, and thats the digital volume. I came from a run of Toshiba's where I could turn all the software volume up to max and use the analouge volume dial to control it.

If you read the thread about WIndows Vista on the forum, the nx8220 will last 3years easily.

I have an nx8220 myself (740 1.73Ghz, 512MBDDR2, 60GB) and I really like the unit as well. I only have minor issues with it, nothing major.

    1. Bluetooth module causes a buzzing/whining sound when off
    2. HDD & DVD Burner on the same IDE channel (reduces overall performance when burning & reading from HDD)

Other than that, I don't have any huge issues with the unit.

I did get the extended warranty for the unit. I have come across too many times when someone sends their unit in for service right after the 1yr warranty period. Some of these repairs were for defective LCD's or dead systemboards. These cost an arm and a leg to get replaced out of warranty. For an extra $100+ why not get the extra insurance.

Currently, I don't think there's any HP business model that has the x700 GPU. I believe they may have it in the new DV4000 series (from what I remember reading).

To run Windows Vista (I assume that's what you mean by Windows 2006), I don't know how well it'll run as this OS has not been finalized yet. I believe all the hardware in your notebook should be supported in Windows Vista.

This is definately a good choice (superb if you ask me), yet what do you think of price? I don't know for Greece, but in Bulgaria HP does not offer Pavilions or Compaqs but only business models. This pushes up the price and I would think twince before buying it because especially in Bulgaria you may find cheaper Acers or Fujitsu-Siemences, I don't know why. I just bought my L2005 from the States for about $1,150; this would be kind of 1,800 in Bulgaria.
