I searched the forum, but really didn't see any answers so please forgive me if this has already been discussed.

As stated I have a ZD8000 (3 months old) that all of sudden the touchpad is very erratic and can not be controlled. If I wait about 5 minutes or so it will go back to normal. I installed my usb mouse from my desktop computer and everything is fine.

I have contacted HP and they suggested I replace the touchpad driver with the latest driver - even though I had the latest I went ahead and did that with no improvments happening. I was next told to update the video drivers?? - which I did - no improvement.

I contacted HP again tonight and once again was told to load touchpad drivers and then to reinstall my XP Home software. I am hesitate to do this quite yet and would be interested if anyone out there may know something I could try.

Also, just for the heck of it I ran my spy sweeper and virus scan and the computer was clean.

    Thanks in advance!!

I would start by re-installing the touchpad driver. I suppose an XP file could be corrupt, but I lean toward the driver or the hardware.

My dad's zd7000 supposedly had a short circuit back overseas when it was connected to a generator out in the field. After that, the touchpad was erratic (he could not move the mouse cursor in a straight line) and the volume bottom was stuck going down.

HP replaced the entire board inside and they changed the whole touchpad and bezel. It works fine now, but it was a pain.

Well, I installed the latest driver again and once again no change.

I decided to go ahead and do the xp repair installation per the HP support suggestion. I really didn't want to since the computer is so new, but once again no change the touchpad is still crazy and now it jumps all over the screen by itself every 5-10 minutes.

I have contacted the support via e-mail so I guess I will wait now for the response, but I don't have a good feeling that they will have the fix.

I am thinking I will take it back to Sams since I have had it only 3 months and try again.

    Any suggestions out there?

Our zd8000 is 10 mths old and has been the worst PC purchase decision we made. They shipped the wrong Microsoft office CD with the laptop, and it was only after trying to enter the key several times, and then being on with the HP helpdesk for over 30 mins that we called Microsoft together and they told me the problem. The HP helper apologised but could not replace the time and energy I wasted. The hard drive then failed (at only 7 months old) and we were sent a new hard drive, and now the left click button has stopped working properly (takes several double clicks to get anything selected). I have been told that it needs to be sent away for service (5-7 days with no replacement). This is a home PC that gets maximum of 1 hours worth of use every few nights and so this has been unaccepable. Each call to the helpdesk has involved at least 25 minutes and up to 1.5 hours and has often been a waste of time. This is the first and last time that I will buy an HP. And what made it worse, when I voiced my frustration to the HP rep tonight, he just kept insisting that HP computers were excellent and this is why the company was so big (hmmmmm).
