I read in CNET's review of the zd8000 something about it lacking the ability to have external speakers. They said something like it was missing the hook up for digital speakers or something. Is this true and if so, is there anyway I can get it hooked up to a 2 speaker 1 woofer set up?

You should be able to plug into the headphone jack.

Like Zazonz said, you should be able to just plug them into the headphone jack. I got my zd8000 last week and bought an Audigy ZS PCMCIA soundcard to go with it. I hooked it up to some Logitech x-530 5.1 speakers and it sounded perfect. I bought the Audigy ZS because I read that the out-of-box soundcard couldn't decode for surround sound. I know this is a little off topic from your question squaremarker but I thought I'd point it out. I would plug in my speakers into the headphone jack to verify for you but I returned my zd8000 because of a dead pixel. I should be getting my new one in a couple of weeks.
