    hi guys,

I'm going to buy a laptop which can replace the desktop. I want one laptop can do smoothly C.A.D, Photoshop and Corel as well as some bombing game like Half life 2 or Call of Duty 2.

I choose zd8k because of its afforadble price, when i set it to 2/3 full cofiguration it only takes me about 1.8k USD. However one guy on PC World warns people going to buy zd8k about its heat.
I try to set the latest Dell XPS with affordable setting but it take s 3.1k :(

Should I buy the dv8kz which uses AMD Turion to avoid heat. However I don't like this laptop much because of its 128mb graphic card.

Can anyone give me a suggestion?

    P.S i likes the numpad of zd8k

Have a look at the Dell 9300. It has a better videocard than the zd8000 and the dv8000. It is aslo a lot cheaper.
Dell is currently offering a deal where if you buy an inspiron notebook for $1999 or more you can use a $750 coupon. Make sure you get the 6800 video card if you decide for the dell.
Here is a site with the coupon,

    Good luck,

Yeah, the 9300 looks great for you. I've heard of several people's ZD7000s being fried because of the dangerous heat they outputted and I think I heard a few similar stories about the ZD8000.

Why don't you go to www.zd8000forums.com and ask around there? I think most of them say they don't have a problem with heat and buy cooling pads to put underneath their notebook to fix any heat issues.

It's too bad the MSI MS-1036 17" Turion notebooks won't make their way to America until next year. They were released in Germany in November. 256MB X700 video. It'd be perfect for you. The Clevo D900K notebooks are nice too but they're considerably heavier and more expensive. That's the price you pay for a desktop Athlon 64 X2 dualcore CPU and GeForce 7800 Go video though. Still less heat than that zd8000.

PC Club has very nice 17" Wide Screen with GeForce 6800, They generally use MSI notebooks with their brandname. The good thing is they have local stores where you can go and talk to directly unlike many Onliners only.

    This is centrino based though.

They also have a Turion based one, but with ATI200M.

Personally, I think for a DTR you could go with Athlon64 systems with good graphics card( if you are a gamer). The reason is, the latest Athlon64 are really good because of very low power consumption, you get Dual channel memory, and some of these support even raid.

Recent reviews shows that Venice based Athlon64 uses less than 30 watts at full load( regular desktop processors). In idle more they hardly use 9 watts. Check this article. This site is verygood if you want to know hard details of Hardware( more electronics oriented approach).

I think current P4 is really worst( I love northwood core though) at heat.
