Just got my newly built notebook. As a desktop replacement I don't use the battery much. My question is how do I bypass the battery and keep the external power source on all the time. I have only 1 power button on this model. That said, none of the support guides explain this simple fact. Do I simply remove the battery and keep the power cords plugged in? I'm tech challenged so I appreciate any input to what is probably a glaringly obvious answer. - :)

As long as you have the external power source connected that's what it will use, you don't have to take out the battery.
That said, there have been several discussions about how to best care for your battery and one issue raised was whether or not to leave it in all the time as it will be charging constantly, or if you should take it out and store it somewhere, which may allow creepy crawlies to get into your laptop. You should probably search the forum for the whole battery discussion, there were a lot of links to various sources of information.
I left the battery in all the time on my first laptop and it lasted 3 years with no problems.

Thanks for the response. To summarize your post in my terms: The default power source with the battery installed and external power plugged in would be the external power.

What got me confused was I was getting the message "Change batteries or shut down immediately or you'll lose all unsaved data". This ocurred while the battery was in and I was using external power. That made me think I was running on the battery and not on external power for some reason. Now that I think about it, perhaps I didn't have the power cord on tight, so the machine was actually running on battery power.
