At the bottom of my zd8000 the lcd has some whitish areas, mainly above the HP logo.....I can also tell that is the hottest area of the lcd. There are also some whitness near the top, Im guessing that came from the lid being closed and possibly another hot area on the base of the laptop. It also seems when watching movies or playing games, they look much darker then my zv5000 laptop. Both have brightview and the higher screen, but if Im watching a movie, and its a dark scene, the black on black I cant see anything. The normal desktop looks fine.....just wondering if my zv5000 had a nicer lcd I guess....of maybe its an issue of the backlight im having.
My question is, can this be fixed by replacing the invertor? Or would this probably fall under needing to replace the entire lcd?
Another thing is just kinda strange....the hard button for the wireless to be on/off.....when the wireless is on, the button is not lit up.....when I push it to turn the wireless light on, the wireless turns off. This is completly backwards from every other laptop ive had.....any ideas? (this one isnt a real concern, just strange)

What you're describing with the LCD sounds like light leakage, which is completely normal, unless you just started noticing it recently or it's gotten worse over time. The light leakage comes from where the backlight tube(s) is/are located in the LCD assembly.
As for the black on black issue... if you have a dedicated graphics card, there should be some advanced controls that the card provides for tweaking the colors of your lcd (ATi Catalyst control center, nView, etc.)
As for the wireless button issue.... I don't know. -
Hey thanks......ya I know I can lighten it, but everytime Ive tried doing that with previous machines, it seems to make the lights waaaaay too bright.
On the light leakage deal.....what would the fix be? I mean, its not THAT important, but if its something I can fix, I would like to. I cant say if its been that way for a while, or getting worse yet, I got the laptop used from someone.
Ive taken apart my zv5000 many times, and ive taken this one apart, just not the lcd part yet. Is it something I can open up and make sure everything is connected correctly? Or is it more of a replacement deal?
