    I am awaiting my ZD8080:
    3.4 P4
    2X512 dual channel ram
    4200 100 G HD
    ATI X600 256 Meg video
    WinXP Media Center
    8X DVD+R/CDR

    My questions are:
    1. do I want/need to get a faster Hard drive if I plan on doing video editing?

    2. Do I need/want to expand to 2 Gigs of ram?
    3. Is there any reason to go from WinXP Media to WinXP Pro?

Also is the DDR ram the same as DDR desktop ram? I found some cheap DDR PC3200 i think, same as what it comes with, but it doesn't say DDR2, whats the diff? I will be in iraq editing videos i take out here and making them into dvd's to send home.

Definatly get the faster hard drive, it is crucial for video editing.
I think 1 gig of ram should be enough, but why don't you tell us your needs so we can be sure 1 gig is enough for you?

I'm not sure, but I think that Windows XP Media Center Edition has everything that XP Pro has, plus the extra media functions.

    1) A 7200 rpm HHD will give you around 30% increase in speed. Which will help you in video editing (recomended)

    2) 1 gig will do you well now.

3)XP home is fine. XPpro is more for networks

4)DDR2 for desktops are not Sodims (different)

Sorry, I thought you said XP home. Media Center is not XP home, it's not XP Pro either. Media Center should now be thought of as another version of XP just like Home and Pro. It's closer to Pro than Home, the major difference is that Media Center 2005 does not support connecting to a domain. The reason for this is that Extender devices use Fast User Switching technology to work and that functionality is not available on a domain. In short, I think you will be fine with the Media Center edition.
