Howdy all,
I'm trying to figure out if anyone who's got a ze4610 has found out if a mini-pci 802.11b/g module will work or not. Looking around, it seems nobody's sure if the antenna is built in on these or not. Documentation seems to point to it being an option, and HP's got a part number on their site for the ze4610us (part #319468-002), but I haven't found any information from anyone saying that it actually works.
So anyone got one working?

Did you ever get anywhere with this? You can pick up a 319468-002 mini PCI card fotr about $15 ( http://www.getpartsonline.com/319468-002.html). There isn't any antennas installed on a 4610US but HP supply the antennas for $24.

i wondered the same thing since i have the 4610us too. I didnt get any answers back then. So how do yourun the antenna then?

In order to run the antenna, you'll have to actually take apart the notebook and LCD. It's looped around the back of the LCD panel itself and then feeds through the hinge area to the unit area. The ends of the wires will either be located under the keyboard or will feed through a hole in the systemboard to the bottom of the unit. If it's on the underside, that's where you'd plug the mini-pci card, but if there's not empty slot, it's most likely under the keyboard.

Mini PCI slot is accessed from the cover on the bottom.. Antenna wires on these run beneath the systemboard and screw on to the right and left hinges.. These are a pain to install as you have to remove the systemboard to do correctly...Easier option for you would be a PCMCIA wireless card w/internal antenna.

Going with a PCMCIA wireless card is probably the best solution for a unit without wifi or the antennas. The PCMCIA slots in most units these days are not used (wifi, LAN & modem all integrated into the unit) so you might as well use it. Also having a PCMCIA wifi card is also good because it's in the system without anything to break off or loose. Just leave it plugged in and you're set. There is a bit of plastic sticking out, but most bags will accommodate it without any trouble.
So Mephiska, as what others have recommended, I'd also recommend just getting a PCMCIA card and leave it at that. It's cheaper and easier to add.
