    Hi Everyone,

I have to post this here because I've not found an answer to my dilemma anywhere as yet. I am having problems with my onboard IEEE 1394 FireWire port on my zv5430us Pavilion notebook. WinXP SP2 claims that the hardware is installed fine, the drivers working fine, etc., but I cannot seem to get an externally connected HDD to be recognized by my system. I've tried numerous 4-6pin firewire cables all with the same result.

Sadly, I even tried to install Win2K on a separate drive to figure out if it was WinXP/SP2 at fault, but I cannot seem to locate the drivers for the nVidia chipset to complete the Win2k installation, so I am unable to verify under that older OS.

Is anyone else having a similar issue with their onboard 1394 port, or is it just me?

    I hope someone can help.

    Thanks!

I'm assuming that the external drive is plugged in with a separate AC adapter and you've tried several firewire cables, right? Also, the drive has to be FireWire400 (not FW800) compatible. Just trying to knock out the basics.

Yes, the external drive is supplied power via an external AC adapter, and it is indeed FW400 compatible, not FW800.

Is there anything inherent in these models that would prevent this device from working?

    Thanks for your quick reply!
