I bought a zv5000 that had no hard drive, So I bought a used hard drive from a zv5000 from Ebay. When it boots up it just comes up some error and says "check cable", If you goto the bios all the numbers are gerballed-up for some of the info, such as for the HDD it shows "spades" all the way accross. I was told just resest the Cmos, I cant figure that out.

the accuall message says
PXE-E61 : Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F : Exiting PXE ROM
in the Bios is shows the Notebook Model as all strange charicters
the serial numbers are the same
the UUID number: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
in the Tools, HDD Self sest, Test status: No IDE Device. -
1) Its not seated properly
2) Its a dead HD
To reset CMOS, take out battery pack and unplug AC power
then hold power button for 30 seconds or more -
The most obvious question to ask ould be whether you got the HDD adaptor which connects the HDD ton the motherboard. HP uses a thin plastic strip which covers the ATA connectors on the HDD which is necessary to connect the HDD to motherboard.

ok, I did the CMOS reset, it reset the time to something in 2003, I took my thinkpad T23 HDD (XP) out and put in my zv5000. It doesnt boot, it locks up as soon as the HDD kicks in (maybe driver issues?). But I can go into the BIOS menu and it shows a HD connected under the... tools...HDD test... It also still has the wierd characters, looks like some chinese letters. Is this normal? or is something else messed up along with the HDD

my zv5000 before the motherboard failed had thoes weird characters too it was over the serial number too though no idea why it happend. i know this is a little late response

I have obtained a HP zv5000, has no hard drive. I purchased a hitachi internal hard drive p/n w:08k0632 MLC: h69555.
I brought it down to Best Buy and talked to one person there and one person on the phone. Both Best Buy personnel said I need an IDE adaptor to plug in this new drive into the older zv5000 laptop. They said contact HP.
The one person in hp chat said internal drives for laptops don't need IDE adaptors and tried to sell me a 120w a/c adaptor.
I called on the phone for HP and said They don't have adaptors I need to purchase a new motherboard from HP.
Can someone tell me what exact part # I need to get an adaptor so I can plug in this new hard drive?
Also can we blow up the country INDIA? What a bunch of American steeling job loosers over there. -
