One of the fans on my HP Pavilion zv5000t started dying, so I was lucky enough to have a complete same model that I have for parts. I replaced the fan with the parts laptop, booted it back up, and now I have some really weird things going on.

When first turning it on, I get a "compaq" logo rather then my HP logo (before windows loads), next it will no longer run off the battery (not a big deal, I never use the battery), I have to manually push the wireless button to turn the wireless on everytime I boot it up, and finally I have to raise the brightness level of the screen each time I boot up.

Once the laptop is up and I have done everything it runs like a champ.

Im guessing when I switched the fan I must have reset something, or loaded some old bios, but when I go into bios its still the same version, and I have all of my normal bios settings including the bios password I set.

Attempted fixes: I put the old fan back in, I tried updating the bios to the newest version, which I was a version or 2 old, the update went through fine, but no change. I completely took everything apart and reconnected everything. Still having the same results.

I contacted HP's chat, but you know how that is, one of the chat techs told me the only way for this to happen would be if I replaced the motherboard, and he asked me 3 or 4 times if I was sure I didnt change out the MB.....the other tech said the fan must have caused it, and to try putting the old fan back in, or sending it in for a analyss from them.

Im not expecting much of a fix here, but I thought the whole thing seemed really odd, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on this one.

I work on desktops and laptops for a living, and have completly rebuilt hundreds...mainly dells though....although I have taken my HP apart many times for cleaning and other things.

I wonder if System Restore would help you with this? The logo issue seems really strange to me; can't think of any reason why this would happen. Curiosity would compel me to check the Event Viewer and then System Properties, just to see what the machine thinks it is, and what it thinks it may have going on. lol

I hope this turns out to be something simple like a setting change as you mentioned. Please keep us posted. Can't wait to see the resolution. I'd never have thought that switching a fan would cause such weird problems.

Nothing in windows has changed, it seems to be something with the firmware. The only thing that makes sense to me is maybe this laptop came originally with the compaq logo and these settings in place, and at the manufature they update with HP and correct settings. My guess is I must have shorted something, or caused it to revert back to the original pre settings of the motherboard.

Ya Im still looking around, but I cant find anything close type of issue online.
