It's been two month already with my beloved 3700+ zv5000z. The machine tolerated 6 flights (incl. 2 overseas) and was very reliable...

Two days ago I put it to my backpack and as I go down the hall, I hear some weird noise - as if a ziplock is unzipping and - BANG the laptop is on the stone floor, and the battery is seen some five feet from it. Turnes out, I forgot to close the zipper [xx(] as a result a 1.5 meeter flight of the heavy monster with a harsh landing.

Turnes out, nothing serious has occured to it at all (only some 1/2 inch crack on the outer corner of the LCD lid. Neither easily visible nor functionally important). Not bad at all. Maybe I should check the zipper next time?

Definitely lucky! You may want to consider getting the Accidental Damage Protection plan. It would allow the repair of a dropped unit under warranty. Imagine if the LCD got cracked or the systemboard busted, you'd be looking at approx $1000US in overall repair costs if both broke. Get it now if there's physical damage anywhere on the casing (plastic turns white on impacts), this way you can still send it in for repair under warranty later if it gets worse.

You may also want to invest in a backpack that doesn't zip all the way down. This will prevent your unit from falling out again.

    Alekkh,

The Accidental Damage Protection plan is a warranty add-on that you can get directly from HP. This will protect your system from accidental damage like broken LCD's, liquid spills and possible from drops. Here's a link to the HP site for the 3 year warranty extension and Accidental Damage. This goes for $350US. Just make sure you read all the fine print.

You're welcome on the HDD password hint. Just don't forget the password. [ :D]
