Hi, i am about to purchase one of the above models with a 3400+ processor. I just wanted to know the motherboard and chipset used in these laptops. Also, i am really baffled by the specifications stated on their website. It states that the front side system bus speed is 266 MHz however i thought that the hypertransport system replaced the old system and had speeds of 800/1600 MHz. Also, i donot understand some reviews stating that the above systems are single and not dual mode. An explanation to the above from someone with knowledge would be grately appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    James.

It uses the nVidia nForce3 chipset. I don't know what the 266MHz is referring to either, probably just a clueless error. I think they're referring to the DVD burner options when they say single and not dual mode, the burners only do the DVD+R/RW formats and not DVD-R/RW (which is annoying because I favor -R, but they weren't offering burners at all when I ordered my zv5000z anyhow).

I think he is right about the motherboard but not the 266, that is the speed but I don't know the exact math but there is a muiltipler so it runs as a 1600MHz bus. Also the single mode is refering to the RAM access its not a dual mode RAM its single. The AMD 64 FX is the version that can have dual RAM, hope this helps, Also the 2 computers are exactly the same other than price I have the compaq computer my spec's are in my profile below I'm very happy with it, but if you have any questions more specific I'd be happy to tell you about it.
