Hello everybody! I recently received my laptop the other day with the athlon 64 3700+ processor which is supposed to be clocked at 2.4 Ghz, yet I"ve never seen it clock over around 700mhz in "my computer properties". Can anybody tell me what is going on and how to increase my clock speeds. Thanks

"My Computer Properties" speed readout is broken. Use MobileMeter. Do something CPU-intensive and your notebook will jump from 800MHz to 2.4GHz.

Thanks for the info, Brian. I downloaded mobilemeter and ran Doom 3 for a few minutes thinking it would be CPU intensive enough to increase the speed from 800 mhz but to no avail, it continued to register right at 800 mhz. I even played around with mobilemeter options, directing it to obtain its CPU info from each of its optional sources. I dont know. Any more Ideas?

Read this thread about the same issue. A couple more answers

That thread link should answer your question, but just to clarify, the easiest fix might just be changing your power options (in the control panel) to "home/office" or "always on". Also, check the refresh time you have on mobile meter. Mine is set to every 6 seconds, so if you run a program, then minimize it, you still might not see the processor speed increase since it might have occurred between refresh times. I had the same issue with mine, but mobile meter relieved my anger!

MobileMeter does graph your CPU speed over time, so you should see the period you were running at full speed in that. Portable/Laptop runs much cooler than Always On so it's worth using.

I had the same question. I wasnt playing games but wanted to know why my speed said 745 or so and it was a 2.4. They said that it uses the power as it needs it and it will on average show this low number due to power distribution. Basically it only uses the 2.4 when it needs it. This is what I was told but have not checked it out enough to prove it.

Today i check with the AMD website. There are two types of process described as "Mobile AMD Athlon 64" & "AMD Athlon 64 for Notebooks" showed on their website. Both of them are designed for the notebooks. But what is the different between them??? Thanks in advance.

Not much. In both cases the processor driver link points to the same file.
