I just recently found the Adrenaline X-Gear on sale at PC Club and just want to know how it compares to HP's similar zv5000z. I've never heard of the brand before, but it sure looks like a great value. Is it as good of quality as the Hp?

Looking at the X-Gear notebook, it's the same as the Averatec 6100 series. Except that the Averatec uses the Intel P4 chip. Currently, Averatec is one of the smaller players, but with notebooks like this at the price they're selling it for, I's sure they're taking away market share from the larger companies.

The quality of the notebook may not be up to par with HP. Especially on the service & support side. If I had to make a choice between the 2, I'd go for the HP because of their history/track record. But if cost is a big issue, I'd go for the Averatec over the X-Gear, you can't really get a better deal with all the features it includes without going "whitebox"/noname brand.

I don't know if this will help but it doesn't sound like too bad of a notebook.

It looks like another rebranded Uniwill notebook (Fujitsu sells them under their brand overseas). Its top-of-the-line Radeon 9700 video card is going to beat the snot out of the 3-year-old GeForce 440 Go in the zv5000z. See here:

    http://www.uniwill.com/Product/258KA0/Product%20Tour/main.htm

HP offers higher-res screens, Bluetooth, and 12-cell batteries (vs. 8-cell), X-Gear has that Radeon. mwave.com sells the same Uniwill notebook under their brand (one of my two favorite toy stores).

Price isn't too big an issue, no more than $1600 though. I'll probably wait to the end of the week just to see if hp changes the graphics card. If not I'll either go with the zx5000 or the emachine M6811. I'd rather have the 3400+ however.

good luck waiting for HP. I've been waiting forever! I even wrote a petition! http://www.petitiononline.com/hpamd64/petition.html

Anyways, personally I wouldn't get the Adrenaline X-Gear only because the screen is not WSXGA, WUXGA, and it doesn't have any sort of Brightview/Xbrite/UltraGlossy technology.

I am really gonna wait 'till mid-August to buy a laptop from HP, and if they can at least upgrade the zv5000z to pretty much be like the zd7000 but with the AMD64 (17" Brightview, Geforce 5700, numeric key pad) then I'll get it. Otherwise I'm gonna have to buy the zd7000.

Maybe they will have a zv7000z where it is the same as the zd, but with amd64 instead!

I wish I could wait that long, but I need a laptop for college and I need one in my hands by Aug. 22. I looked at the zd7000, but it would never give me the option of bringing it to class or anywhere else if I had to. The only reason I favor the zx5000 is the increased mobility. Ahh but the zd7000 made me drool when I saw it at circuit city. ( and the one I saw didn't even have the BrightView option!)
