According to Mobile Meter and RM Clock both, and with power settings set to Always On, my CPU seems stuck on 800 (798) MHz. It used to respond to increased demand very quickly, now it doesn't budge. What should I look for that could be causing this?

    Then go to here: http://www.screentekinc.com/HP__Pavilion_ZV5000_Series_lcd_screen--(1920_x_1200)_WUXGA.html

and get the right LCD for the laptop - then kick back with the speed!

Do not settle for anything less - you have to keep on them - you also have to complain 3 times within the same year!

There is a known issue within HP about the BIOS and AMD SpeedStep technology! They will not admit it publicly!

    Good luck fell ex-zv5000z owners!

I've already got the right screen; are the 1920x1200 screens available on the 6100s? And did you go get one for yours?

I couldn't part with this sharp screen.

Some people have had to reinstall the AMD processor driver for unknown reasons to get PowerNOW! (SpeedStep is Intel) working again, but the only BIOS breakage I know of is that PowerNOW! stops working if you swap in a Mobile-class Athlon 64 CPU. In any event, it's usually easier to let RMClock or CrystalCPUID manage your CPU speed and voltage than to fix the processor driver problem.

I agree with Brian, try uninstalling th AMD cpu drivers. It is the first thing to try in order to slove the issue.

Really? so they will replace your laptop? sounds good :p
I have a Pentium 4 HT. What should I call HP about to get them to change my brand spanking old zv5000 (around 1.5 years now) to a ZV6000?

If I can with a pentium? Give me an excuse!

I tried reinstalling the AMD drivers; no joy, still stuck at 800. So I downloaded the F.35 BIOS upgrade (funny <not>; go to support downloads and search for zv5000z it doesn't show up, but search for the file name and it's there), flashed that (with all my USB devices unhooked - ack! had to use the touchpad), and now it's stuck at 2200. Finally again reinstalled the AMD drivers, and now it's working like it ought to.

I really didn't want to be without it, so I'll have to pass on pitching a bit ch for a new one, and keep my nice screen and fast disk.
