I've been having this annoying issue with my zv5405 notebook (AMD 64 3200+). The issue occurs whenever I am inputting text into fields, forms, wordprocessors, anything you type into. It's very sporadic but when it does happen the blinking curser briefly pauses (less than a second) and then when it stops pausing all the characters that I was inputting during the pause bombards the screen.

It just happened as I was typing this post. It's extremely noticable and annoying when using "Mavis Beacon type" software to brush up my typing skills.

I can't put my finger on this nor find any information regarding this. Does anyone out there recognize this issue and have a solution???

Is this related to the CPU throttle/Power Now feature?

All help, as always, is GREATLY appreciated. Especially if you help me nail this one!

I am having the exact same problem on a Compaq Presario R3220CA notebook. It is especially annoying when I'm playing a video game and my run/jump/crouch key sticks and I die.

    Hey josef001 & daygo140,
I have noticed the same kind of occasional slowdown on my zx5078cl. It seems to correspond to the harddrive spinning up after a period of idleness. I suspect that since we have plenty of RAM in our newer notebooks, the harddrive does not need to spin at its top speed all the time. When an application calls for data not already present in RAM, the harddrive spins up from an idle state and we wait for the cursor to return.

I recently installed a Hitachi 7200 RPM harddrive in place of the 4200 RPM harddrive that came with my notebook to minimize this nuisance. The fast drive spins up from an idle state faster.

I could be wrong, but I think there are settings somewhere that will keep your harddrive from an idle state. However, if the harddrive does not spin down, you will notice considerable battery life loss.

    Jeremy
