In the review the person reformatted Windows cause of all the loaded software on this machine. I am just wondering exactly how to do that?

But be very aware that you will not have any of the software that came with your HP unless you have seperate install disks.

If you have to even ask how you reformat..you may want to make sure you have access to someone with a little more knowledge to walk yout hrough the process.

does it wipe your HD? also, if you screw up, can you do a full windows system restore, or is that also erased?

btw, what kind of software would HP have that would be appealing? (seriously though, b/c if there's anything important i'll just back that up and reload it)

    Gargoyle,

Does HP actually give you the individual installation disks for every software package installed? That would be real nice.. but I remember HP just including all of their software on the restore disk in previous models..

    Let us know!

btw b00m.. I'm gonna agree with Gargoyle in saying that you really won't want anything HP gives you..unless you paid extra for it like MS Office.. or games..

In my experience with laptops, the amount of junk software HP installs is nothing compared to what Toshiba installs in their laptops. The system tray at startup of a brand new Satellite A45 had some 20-30 programs and I had to manually uninstall them since toshiba includes only 1 restore disk.[ :(!]

With my r3000z HP included 2 disks. One contained the Windows XP CD(not some restore s**t), the other contains the sound, video drivers and the other preinstalled software. You have the option of selecting which software you want to install.

There are 2 other disks which contain the MS Works/Office. There is also a documentation CD(I have never used this one yet).

well i think HP is still pretty bad considering you experience a 1 minute difference in boot time. probably turning off all those start up programs or deleting them will solve this. i guess im going to reinstall windows when i get mine, i hope there is nothing tricky about it.

Well, If you find any of their programs to be of any value to you then there is no problem in keeping them.

Starting off with a clean slate without any 3rd party programs is the better option and installing your own programs afterwards keeps away any sort of problems later on.

If you reinstall you can even partition your hard drive.
