    Hello,

I have been trying to order a new power adapter for my zv6010us (a dog chewed on the cable :( ). After two wrong shipments, I found the place that can get the 120W adapter for me, but they don't have it in stock. The sales rep says they have the 90W version in stock with the proper oval tip on it. He says HP ships the 6000 series with 90w and 120w, and he says that the 90W should work for me.

I'm not so sure though, because the zv6000's come with quite a few different processors, and I have a feeling that there is a reason my AMD64 equipped model came with the 120W adapter.

Does anyone else have a zv6010 or other 64bit model that was shipped with a 90W adapter? Will it work properly?

Have you tried ordering another adapter from HP? I for one would recommend getting the same wattage adapter as what you previously had, otherwise it probably will not work. I could be wrong though.

I think that if your notebook came with one of the 90nm Athlon 64 CPUs you'll be fine with the 90W adaptor, but if you have the old 130nm CPU you'll definitely need the 120W adaptor. Use a program like CPU-z to find out which you have. HP appears to want $120 for the 120W power adaptor. Yeah, right.

I would try a different HP adapter, but this one has a strange oval tip that looks a bit like a firewire cable. Totally unique design.

You wouldn't believe what I've gone through to source the adapter for this laptop. I ordered one from a site based on the model number, but the one I recieved did not have the correct tip on it, so I had to send it back. I ordered another from a different site based on the part number, but they shipped me that same incorrect adapter again, so now I've had two that were wrong.

So I just called HP about it. first of all, they said the AC adapter is "obsolete" and that HP is no longer selling it. THIS LAPTOP HAS ONLY BEEN ON THE MARKET FOR AROUND 1 YEAR! WTF HP? The sales rep said to put the part number in on a search engine and try and get it from a 3rd party. Yeah, well that's what's gotten me two incorrect adapters in the first place.

Anyway, sorry to vent. This is my 2nd HP laptop. My first one, a ze4610us had the headphone jack and hd die after less than a year, then one month after the 1yr warranty expired it decided it doesn't want to charge batteries anymore. I think this is going to be my last HP laptop.

So, if anyone has a 64bit zv6000 series and a 90W adapater that works, let me know, I'd appreciate it.

I would recommend going to www.notebookanalysis.com and posting this on that site. This is a forum dedicated solely to the HP ZV6000 and its twin the Compaq R4000. They should be able to answer your question if anybody can.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know about that site :)

Funny enough, I have to take back some of my criticism of HP. I just called their support, and even though I told the tech support rep that my adapter cable was chewed on by a dog, the rep said she would put in that it was "frayed" and they would send me a new adapter for free under warranty! So I'm happy.

Great! Glad you got somewhere with this. I have never had to use HP support but I have heard they can be kind of hit and miss with sometimes getting great support and others not so great.
