Just took the plunge and bought the zx5000 with Brightview. Overall, the screen is very good. However, and maybe I'm being a little paranoid here (first laptop/LCD screen), the screen has a very noticeable graduation from dark at the top to lighter at the bottom. If I use a solid color like blue for the Windows desktop, the top will look dark blue and the color will lighten continously towards the bottom where it will be a lighter shade of blue. A black screen will fade from black at the top to gray at the bottom. Normally, I sit with my eyes about 2" higher than the top of the screen with it angled up slightly to face me. Making the screen more vertical reduces the shading.

Is this a defective screen or just normal viewing? I really don't know much about laptop displays...

I have the same screen and do notice the light at the bottom, but it's very minor. I never notice it when I'm working, and I only see it on the screen saver.

other then the shading, how is the brightview? I'd also like to know about the color difference, since we are looking to order this weekend, and am leaning toward the brightview.

Did it take longer to receive your notebook because of the brightview option?

I'm typing this right now on my Brightview screen and I don't notice any color differences between the top and bottom at all. I also haven't noticed the "light leakage" problem some people have talked about. I think these are probably the same issue. But my zx5000 is running great all the way around.

Very clear, bright, somewhat reflective (but doesn't bother me).

Shipped very quickly (from Shanghai). I received it BEFORE the expected shipping date.

I think I may be able to lessen the problem by switching my text console from dark background with white text to light background with dark text.

Didn't want to leave an undeserved negative impression of the machine.

After 2 weeks of use, I'm quite happy with the display. The "problem" seems to depend heavily on viewing angle. Having only used CRTs before, I wasn't used to that. Some small adjustments on my part, and I'm quite happy. Highly recommend this system. [ :)]
