Anybody have any hands-on experience (or second-hand feedback) on the higher display resolutions HP offers for the zx5000? Generally I like to get the highest resolution I can, so I'd lean towards the WUXGA for its 1920x1200. Wasn't sure if people had run into any badness (sturdiness, fuzziness) with the higher resolutions.

    Any insights much appreciated.

I wrote in length about the zx5000 screen here http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3760#16602

Unless your going to run linux which can scale to high dpi displays better than windows (currently) can, 1920x1200 on a 15.4" screen would be worthless.

Of course, going with the WUXGA resolution, your icons and text will me VERY small. If you're already aware of this, then I guess it's completely a user preference. There haven't really been any reported problems with the screens, other than the font's being too small.

    MatrixDragon--

I agree with Venombite...if you are aware that the icons and fonts will be very small on your laptop, and this doesn't bother you, go with the WUXGA resolution. As I've posted elsewhere, I have a WXGA screen (1280 x 800) and my husband has a WUXGA (1920 x 1200) laptop. My resolution is perfect for me with my imperfect eyes, and my husband loves his laptop. If you have good eyes (like my husband) I think you'd be very happy with the higher resolution.

Am i correct that 1280*800 on a 15.4 screen looks more densed than 1024*768 on a 15 inch screen of a regular desktop LCD display? What's your impression?

1280x800 on a 15.4" widescreen is a little bit smaller, i.e. higher res., than 1024x768 on a 15" reqular LCD. I've got the former, my father the latter.

    I have both 15" 1024 x 768 (ze4000) and 15.4" 1280 x 800 (zx5000)and can't really notice a difference.

I would go with 1280 x 800, but that is just my opinion[ :)]

Thanks for all the feedback. I decided to go with the higher resolution for an assortment of reasons. Placed my order, now I just have to keep my fingers crossed. [ :D]

I've got a zv5000 with the WUXGA screen, and run the display at 160% (154 dpi) which gives quite legible sceen characters. Still somewhat small, but verrrrry sharp and bright.

I think you'll be happy with it. I've seen a few problems with programs that can't keep captions and entry fields together, or, like the XP wireless connection status dialog, look OK except the little signal strength bar graph is shifted up and over/under the speed text. No big deal so far - enjoy the finer resolution! Man, do my digi cam pictures look great!
