My zx5000 battery shows 3% charge under the power meter, the charge light flashes rapidly while the computer is running on A/C power but the battery charge never changes. The computer will not start or run with the A/C power disconnected. I've tried the battery recalibration steps listed on the HP web site but it still wont work.
    Any ideas are appreciated.

Run MobileMeter and see what it says your Battery Wear Level is under Options | Battery Information. Odds are your battery is shot. If it's under a year old HP should replace it under warranty.

The wear level shows 0%, the charge rate shows 0.00w

Darn. Don't worry about the charge rate, that doesn't display correctly, but since your battery is good... it sounds like you have a hardware problem that HP will have to deal with, unless anyone else has any ideas?

That def sounds like issues with the laptop, when my laptop charges the light doesn't flash at all, it just stays lit. In fact I have never noticed that light flashing, just the drive access light

    The problem: defective power jack
The fix: HP media cable xc1000

    The cause:
The soldierings of the power jacks
connecting to the motherboard is of poor quality.

You are not alone in this boat. Me also,
with my zv5000. Do a search with google for
this issue and you know many folks are in the same boat.

To replace the jack will involve in taking the motherboard out,
due the design. This means man/hour cost in repairs.

    Simple and fast solution: xc1000.
It connects your laptop using a 32 pin expansion port.
16 on the top row, 16 on the bottom row.

This expansion port will be your new power entrance,
    by passing the bad jack.

The other end of the xc1000 has a power jack same as
what your bad one. Just plug you AC adaptor to xc1000's
power jack and you are back in business.

You can find this in a few online part stores.
Also do a search on ebay. I have xc1000 available:

pls visit my eBay store: silkroadstore
