Heat: Gets hotter under the right palmrest than my current tp. But might just have to expect it b/c it's smaller.

Build quality: Not on par w/t 61, and VERY flimsy plastic (ERRRR! "CARBON RP"), much more so than even my Z 60m, which actually has much stiffer plastic. It is however put together tighter if that makes any sense.

Screen QUality: THis is the reason it's going back. I could live with everything else, actually. But having the LG in my Z, I found people are not exaggerating about the samsung's lack of quality. This is just a roll of the dice.

Uncentered display- not bothersome at all actually. this was one of my biggest concerns looking at pics of it, but whn you USE it, you don't notice it. At all. Non factor.

Service: 1. I canceled my order w/a sales supervisor and they shipped it anyways, 2. Was told the optical drive from my Z series would work in the 61 (by THREE people at lenovo), so saved a measly $9 to get the dvdrom (this was a LIE) 3. Too long to get through to what imo is a rude sales staff. HOWEVER- customer service is awesome.

Sounds bad, but don't let it deter you. Seriously. I mean, once you order it, you're done with sales. Heat- might be cooler than most notebooks, just much hotter than mine. Build quality- if you are expecting previous generation thinkpad, even r or z quality, it's not going to measure up, but still better than your average junk at best buy. Only dealbreaker was screen quality. I couldn't imagine being happy with this screen, even if it was the only lcd I owned and had nothing to compare it to (like all the above factors). It is quite literally the worst LCD I've ever seen on a notebook, monitor, anything.

(EDIT) Internet: plug in cable, pull up browser, and I get interweb on my old notebook. this one, plug in SAME cable, go through every troubleshooting guide and thinkvantage access connections, repair connection, restore ip, NOTHING. It just says "no connectivity, contact administrator..." not true, or else I couldn't be posting this from the same connection on my old notebook.

Yea, the LCD does blow. But mostly I'm pissed about not getting the 64-bit installation, and how I've been transferred around and kept on hold for the better part of two hours.

You know, I've been reading this and the thinkpads.com forums a lot lately about the T61. It seems like almost all of the T61 complains are Vista or sales/support related. Very few complaints about actual hardware compared to other vendors.

i chose "other". having very frequent BSOD problems. I ended up going to the turbo cache application and turning off both readydrive and readyboost. no more problems. hoping intel comes out with a better driver soon.

Well, I'm having problems with XP too. I installed it, and the sound card worked for a while until it stopped. Now it doesn't even let me reinstall the drivers, saying the hardware is not supported!!! WTF!!

Seriously these polls with the attitude of "Ok everyone I'm going to buy a laptop now so you need to fill out this ill conceived poll just for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" annoy the h e ll out of me.

Look at his other posts. These are just meant so he can easily get everything handed to him instead of searching.

Now you might say "well these polls help everyone". No they don't because the mods are too lazy to make them stickies and the people who need to see them like desperado never search so it's pointless. We just end up with the same polls from different newbies. They all follow from the lines of "what problems will I have with my new laptop?" and, "how will my new laptop compare to other laptops?". And normally they're not even that good. It's just some guy who sees shipping delays and automatically creates a poll like "How long did it take your laptop to ship?" because he wants to know how long his new shiny laptop will take to ship. It's just annoying and self serving. The mods are equally to blame because they're complacent and they do nothing to expand the FAQ and pick/create valuable topics that would free the discussion from redundancy.

For *)(#*$ sake you know how many T61p topics there are? I always cringe when I see some dude post "Hey guys I know the specs for the T61p, they're here!!!!". And you know it's that same european link we've seen 1000 times before. Of course had to bothered to search T61p he would have found it easily and many more from other European sources. Like I said before it's partly the moderators collective faults. Many other forums that get more traffic handle this gracefully by having a larger expanded FAQ and sticky section that are value resources for newbies who are unaware of the daily redundancy that perpetuates on this board.

I agree with you for the most part here, but in all honestly, everything on these forums has to stem from self-serving actions. If I don't have a problem I want solved or information I need, I have no business being here.

And people definitely need to put some effort in searching for the answers to their questions either here or on Google. I won't be the first the say that I never started threads to get stuff answered, but for every question I asked, I searched and found answers to at least 9 other questions that I had. For instance, some guy just today asked people to find something for him on buy.com. Ridiculous, I tell you. It's like asking a random person you see in the mall to bring you the Xbox from GameStop.

5 day old laptop and they have to send a guy out to replace hard drive. That says it all.
