Or should I say they suddenly stopped working under windows.

I am using windows xp sp2 and have been using this laptop on the same installation of Windows for about 6 months now.. no problems at all.. till now.

This morning when i turned on my laptop, the first thing i noticed that the fingerprint reader was not working.. It was not giving me any response at all.. so i logged in with my password..

Then while using the internet the wifi got disconnected from the router and after that it refused to work no matter what I do.. It gets stuck on "acquiring network adress" but when i gave a static ip, like 192.168.1.232 it gets connected but i dont get any data from the router.. it shows offline mode.. also the wifi gets disabled and then enabled by itself multiple times.. I had to turn it off..

-The router is fine.. my acer aspir 5315 and my nokia connects with the router via wi fi without any problems...

    - Also I tried using the wifi under ubuntu linux and it works there.. meaning the net works wirelessly without any problems in ubuntu but it refuses to connect in windows xp.. I could not try the fingerprint reader in ubuntu since it is not supported by linux yet.

I tried removing the drivers and reinstalling the software+drivers.. but that did not help...

any ideas as to what may have caused this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

I dont want to do a re-install of windows..

    Help :)

Please, no bumps for 24 hours as per the forum rules.

Did you install/uninstall any software or anything precipitate this happening? Are using any encryption? Perhaps shutting it down and the firewall too to see if that's the issue might help. You may wish to see if there's a firmware update for your router as well.
