Swapped my X200 with Samsung 830 SSD and moved onto Windows 8 but it seems like most of the processes are automatic so I'm not sure what more to install since most of the patches are/were for Windows 7 updates.

I installed Active Protection System and Power Manager Driver so far. I don't seem to have problem running what I need to do.

I think I just need to install Hotkey because mute key doesn't work with default Windows 8 (volume up and down works though) and some of the Fn keys do not work.

But am I missing anything..? Do I need to install Lenovo Patch Utility and Matrix Driver Storage, etc...?

    Thanks! :)

You definitely don't need Active Protection System for a SSD regardless of the OS. That is designed for HDD head parking.

I would diable the APS system, as it caused my SSD in my Z61t to lock up all the time (used XP recovery discs, preinstalled APS system, took me 2 days to figure out what the heck was going on).

I see. Uninstalled.. took me 3 years to figure out since I had a first-gen Samsung SSD prior to 830 Series :)

Do I need anything else though?

I really like the default Windows 8 volume +/- UI haha.. but I don't know if I would give up that for mute function.

It's hard to recommend much right now. The Windows 8 Release Preview (RP) is running rather well on my T420 without installing any Lenovo downloaded and installed software or drivers.

The hotkey package I have for the T420 doesn't work with the RP. So the microphone mute button doesn't work, but speaker mute and volume up and down do. But they worked before the hotkey package was installed.

I just installed Power Manager just so I could check my battery cycle count.

I would say keep an eye on Windows 8 Beta Drivers for anything you might need but don't expect much until Windows 8 is GA.

Yes, I removed Active Protection System, so all I have installed is the Power Manager Driver.

I haven't decided whether I should install the Power Manager itself.

And yes again, Windows 8 seems to be running so smoothly w/o Lenovo drivers being installed other than Power Manager driver. It seems to install camera driver and some other basic driver automatically though.

I didn't bother to download any lenovo drivers/software on my Win 8 install either.

Everything works with the native win8 drivers except:
    fingerprint reader
    mute button
    some function keys
    tablet screen rotate buttons
    BlueTooth

I actually havent found fingerprint reader drivers for windows 7 yet, so I havent been able to use it since my clean install even in 7. Anyone have a link?

I ran into 'There is no drive ... winlog.exe' problem whenever I try to shut down Windows 8.

Tried installing a Windows 8 media card driver from Lenovo.com, no luck.

Disabled off hibernation and that problem seems to be gone.

I too decided not to install any Lenovo drivers/ software on my freshly installed W8RP - so far appears to be running very well plus gave a decent temperature drop. The only thing I added during the setup process was Intel RST F6 driver.

    Running Windows 8 right now.

Installed the chipset driver, Intel's RST driver, power management driver, and the Synaptics driver. Everything is the default driver provided by Windows 8.
