We have X200, Edge 14, and T420 in the house. Edge has HDMI cable so it plugs to my TV.

But is there an option (e.g. adapter, expresscard) that accepts HDMI (PC) <-> HDMI (TV) for X200 and T420?

    Thanks!

The T420 can do it with a displayport to HDMI cable. You can get the displayport on the ultrabase, but I don't believe the X200 supports audio over displayport. I don't know about expresscards.

I found DVI to HDMI cable on eBay. Would this work on both X200 and T420? Both has DVI port.

So basically, this is equivalent to connecting to a projector using DVI cable, instead the other end is HDMI port not the usual TV cable?

I don't think either has a DVI port on the machine itself, but you can get DVI with the dock. DVI doesn't do audio either. If you need that, then DVI probably isn't a good fit.

I see. I must've gotten monitor-out port confused with DVI. So there's no option then unless I get the ultrabase?

    I thought these would work fine on X200 and T420 - http://cgi.ebay.com/HDMI-DVI-CABLE-...ultDomain_0&hash=item415b1f1335#ht_1025wt_911

    But I guess not?

So you want to connect your T420, X200, Edge machine to a TV which has a HDMI port?

Edge: HDMI <-> HDMI cable (contains audio)
T420: DisplayPort <-> HDMI cable (contains audio)
X200: VGA <-> HDMI cable (doesn't contain audio)

Yes. Edge has HDMI port built-in, so that's not a problem, but X200 and T420 does not, so I wanted to know how it would work.

Main reason is for watching 720p movies via PC to TV.

For the best video quality for the T420 and the X200, you would have to get one of the docks for the T420 as well as an X200 Ultrabase. I think you can get the T420 to do audio via Displayport, while you won't with the X200. I hook my X200 to my 40" HDTV quite often using a DP to DVI adapter, then a DVI-HDMI cable. Works perfectly.

On my TV at least(Toshiba 40E200U) connecting via the VGA cable doesn't display in native resolution, I get 1366x768 and even that is letterboxed inside the display. Quite annoying.

Not all DisplayPort adapters support audio (as I found out). Be sure and research what works if you get one. Don't trust Amazon.com's sellers to sell exactly what is described (that's what happened to me). The following adapter does pass the audio and video signal from my X220 to my TV (I needed an HDMI cable as well to plug into it).

For only $6.30 each when QTY 50+ purchased - DP (DisplayPort) Male to HDMI Female Adapter | DisplayPort to HDMI | DVI | VGA Adapters

Another option is that you probably can pass the audio signal from the headphone jack on the laptop to the audio RCA audio jacks (red and white) on the TV. I've done this before when using a VGA cable. You need a headphone plug to RCA adapter and possibly an RCA 'Y' adapter (to pass both left and right audio signals). The main question is whether your TV receives an audio signal from the RCA audio jacks with your chosen video input.

From what I can see, the only way to know for sure if it passes audio and video successfully is to buy it and try it, or read where somebody else has had success with the same adapter(s).
