I wanted to know if I could replace my X200 keyboard.

I remember reading that there is a better keyboard option available that's used for X201 and X220 that is compatible with X200??

Could anyone provide me a link or part # where I could buy?

Is it really easy to replace keyboard? I've replaced RAM, HD before, but I've never replaced keyboard before.

    Thanks in advance!

But I could only replace with default X200 keyboard or could I replace with other keyboard (e.g. island style?)

This is the only model displaying - 42T3638 42T3671 KEYBOARD FRU

With enough skill, all is possible, but you'd have to find a suitable chiclet keyboard and Lenovo never made one for the X20x machines.

No unless you're willing to do significant machining and cutting.

Though it might be simpler - if you're lucky the chiclet keyboards have identical mechanisms and all you need is a keyswap to an X200 keyboard. Unlikely though.

Would replacing the keyboard improve typing? It feels like some keys are lose. When I press certain keys, it just doesn't seem as smooth as the first time I bought it and left mouse key makes weird noise when I click them.

I would say so. If you feel that keys are loose and are bothering you or not registering when you type normally it could certainly affect your wpm.

Not all ThinkPad keyboards are made equal since they are manufactured by different companies. For the X20x there are only two manufacturers (NMB and Chicony).

I actually type faster on my older T series (NMB) than my X series (Chicony).

But if I were to replace with identical part [not alternative such as island/chiclet style], then it would be just easy as removing 4 screws, disconnect cable, remove keyboard, re-input keyboard, and reconnect cable?
