Will be getting my x230 tomorrow and have some questions... didn't purchase from Lenovo.
Would it be possible to upgrade a TN panel to IPS panel after purchase? Would there be a pin count/cable problem?

    2306CTO 3x3 Antenna TN

edit: I just tried to get the same configuration on Lenovo's website, and it looks like you can't get 3x3 Antenna without getting a "Premium" screen, which I assume is the IPS display. Now I don't know how this was in August when the seller said he bought the laptop, maybe you could have bought a 3x3 antenna with the TN display...

Also he mentions that it has no Bluetooth or backlit keyboard. Could he be mistaken, because I can't configure an x230 without Bluetooth or Backlit keyboard.

No problem, clean swap. Kiss the remaining warranty "goodbye", though.

The key is whether the machine has a camera, not the display type. You can do 3x3 without camera, but only 2x2 with it.

I'm fairly certain that (at least in the U.S.) one can configure any ThinkPad without either of these items.

My question if it is certain to be a IPS screen, if it has a 3x3, when configured through Lenovo.

If you put the old TN panel back in before sending it in for repairs or something, no one will notice. :D

Lenovo's CTO offerings on the website change practically everyday. What's possible/impossible today cannot be held to be truth for future discussions.

BTW, unless you got an extremely good deal, I wonder why buying something and wanting to "fix" it even before receiving it?

Have not received the laptop yet but just want to prepare to replace the screen, but I'm not sure if the IPS is good for programming with all the ghosting concerns. I'm worried that if it's a TN, it will be crappy with horrible contrast and black levels like some T series screens. Best bet would be to compare to my current T400, which is definitely not as good as my W150ER as far as contrast, but feels awesome to code on with the form factor and keyboard/touchpad.

I've had my X220i for almost two years and have yet to see any ghosting on it.

Ghosting only appears after minutes of displaying the same graphics along the edges of the screen.

It is highly unlikely you will even notice it though.

What about a black and white terminal on the same position for hours? Are you saying htis doesn't happen at the center of the screen? And does the ghosted images inhibit viewing of the currently view images? Hope this is just an exagerated concern from the nitpickers, as when it comes to laptops I only care about a few things, as I've dealt with too many low quality laptops that I'm immune to the minute flaws.

Hope to get it Monday to check it out, I might just settle with it if it's a TN Display, I could wait a week or 2 to replace the screen if it is as crappy as I think it will be, but I doubt it'd be as bad as a 4 year old T400 display(but who knows, Lenovo is getting pretty bad about screens).
Either way, I think I'd take ghosting over horrible contrast anyday, I'm not looking for aesthetically pleasing images, only when I'm playing games from time to time.

Yes, there is no ghosting in the center, and no, it does not affect the current image. You can only see it on solid backgrounds. I do graphics and no coding at all, so I have no idea about terminals at all.

Unless you look for it you won't even know about no ghosting.

It is a TN screeen. But I'm looking into buying the SL B3 screen, what is the difference between SL(B1 B2 and B3) IPS screens.

The SLB1 is the standard IPS which can be found in the X220. The SLB2 is basically identical but doesn't have any hooks to mount the screen, thus it is nearly impossible to put it into the X220. As far as I know there is no SLB3.

    12.5 inch LCD Panel List (16 models) - Panelook.com

I wonder if the response times are accurate, I do scroll/analyze through thousands of lines of code, and I to be able to see every line as I scroll. Can't find any real world testing on the effects of response times on this.

Mine is the B125XW01 V0, and the is a XW02, which has a 6/2 response time(whatever this means).

IPS screens would be horrible for this I think, although with the higher contrast, perhaps it would weight out?

    Thanks.

When moving graphics around it's easy to tell the respond times aren't the best. It's basically like motion blur is turned on. It's get's worse if you work in a cold environment.

I don't see why this should make coding worse though.

Scrolling through lines of text can cause the motion blur and ghosting, the better the response and refresh rate, the easier it will be to make out the text as it's moving. We won't see 120Hz on a 12.5" screen any time soon, so response time is the only thing to consider, but I'm thinking I won't tell much of a difference...

The XV02, from the images on Panelook, I've noticed, don't have a mount pane with screw holes like the XV01. I'm wondering if I can attach my XV01's to the XV02...
