    Hi

I am planning to upgrade my 1366x768 screen on my IdeaPad to a 1600x900 screen without having to buy a new laptop. I am wondering if this was actually possible and would work. I plan to buy a screen from the same series laptops but the upgraded model (same specs but better screen).

This is the one I plan to get:

    (Matte one).

I plan to install myself, I just need clarification as to it working (no compatibility issues or physical issues).

Thank you everyone in advance, I very much appreciate it!

EDIT: I have the upgraded i7 model with 1366x768, not the i5 model. Just clarifying.

Should work. The link you provided says it is compatible. However, they don't say what panel you are getting, so it's hard to say how it will compare to the stock display. Then again, the stock screen isn't all that great (only 200 cd/m2 brightness and 400:1 contrast).

So you are saying it will work? I am new to the laptop world as I have only focused on desktops till now. I am planning to order it tomorrow..

Also, what do you mean by the panel and how it will compare to the stock display? Will it not be better than my current display?

    Thank you for the response!

Is there some sort of thread he made? I'm loving my y410p I got off craigslist for 500 bucks but I hate this 1366x768 and after signing up for this forum it won't let me pm anyone!

Just be warned, replacing the display is rather difficult and it might void your warranty. Also be sure to check the hardware maintenance manual for a list of supported drivers and for guided instructions on how to dissasemble the laptop to replace the panel:

If memory serves right, this laptop supports 3 kinds of 1600x900 displays, i recommend afterwards looking up each on panelook.com to see which has the best contrast/color. I have the LG one but from what i heard the AUO one is the best.

This video shows you how to fully open up the laptop.

    Cheers.

I opened the laptop and replaced the display only to end up breaking the camera cable and lvds and on top of that even with a new y510p dual channel cable it will NOT support the auo screen. I have no clue why but I said screw it left the 768p screen in and left the camera cable broke and I'm selling it. Bought an won an auction for a y510p 16GB ram/240GB ssd with 750m sli and i5 instead (processer downgrade but whatever got SLI now)
