Very nice! The SSD strategy is cool.
-
Congrats! That's a nice system.
Very comparable in specs to my T410.
-
Congratulations! May I ask how much you paid for your new system?
-
I just pulled the trigger on the same, tho I kept the standard intel-1000N wireless and 2GB Ram (I will upgrade it myself with a second stick of 2GB when I also do the SSD). I paid just over $850 for mine. Coming from an ASUS 1201N hoping for a big increase in performance and battery life. Was between this and a 1830t/AS1430.
-
I also got one and my total came to $850 with 3 gigs of ram but I forgot to add the damn touchpad
Hopefully I will like the trackpoint better then a touchpad but if not ill have to buy a new palm rest for like 60 bucks. Also got the Intel 120gb X25-M SSD from newegg on black friday for $165 to throw in it. Cant wait! -
Did you get the camera? I went without the touchpad, my ex had a A30 and I loved that little red nipple
-
No I didn't get the camera here were the specs on mine. I also used a student discount to get a little more then the 20% off.

The more I read about the trackpoint the more I like it. The touchpad on the X201 is pretty small anyway and most of the times I will be using a wireless mouse so I don't think ill replace the palmrest. -
So did you use the sale proceed from the MacBook pro covered the full cost of the new thinkpad?
-
cool.. my very first thinkpad/lenovo looking forward to it.
kinda cool to get both trackpad/pointer... im used to a trackpad for scrolling webpages. I am sure I will use both
-
For sure, if I would have known you had to add that option I would have.
-
once you get used to using thinkpad trackpoints, you'll love it.
at least I did.
-
I got 700 for my macbook pro. I sold it to a buddy. I prob could of got 800, but pushed for a fast local sale. I did pretty well. 328 out of pocket.. plus whatever i will end up spending on my SSD drive.
I really needed something more portable w longer lasting battery. So this thing is near perfect for my needs. It was either the x201 or the sony z, but the price point is what killed it for the sony z. I wanted to go that route for the 13in high res screen. Seems like the market lacks high res 12-13in screens.
And its funny ive been watching the sales all weekend hoping to get a decent price on something. And sony jumped on board mid-day sunday and lowered the Z prices on the website to 1569.99 from 1699.
But look what they did to compensate:
# [Out of Stock] Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
# Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit [add $50.00]
# Genuine Windows® 7 Ultimate 64-bit [add $150.00]
# Standard Capacity Battery
# [Out of Stock] Large Capacity Battery [add $100.00]
A joke... How the do you run out of WINDOWS OS? I def call bs
VPCZ1290X | VAIO® VPCZ1290X Configure-to-Order | Sony | Sony Style USA -
I don't know if Sony does build-to-order systems or not. If they just build a whole bunch and sell them with different configurations, then yeah, it's very possible they could run out of that particular model. If it's build-to-order, then yeah, I call BS too.
It is possible though that they could have allocated only a certain amount of orders at that sale price. It's stupid, but it's the way of business.
-
Hum it is really strange that Sony runs out the os. It is usual practice for many company to upgrade the user to next stocked configuration. But Sony usually are not customer orientated. This is one reason why Sony is a forgotten brand.
-
Congrats on the machine. X200/X201 is the best ultraportable on the market.
-
Anyone that ordered on black friday get theirs yet?
Mine shipped on the 26th but it has been stuck in KY for over a day and a half now. And there is no estimated delivery date which kind of sucks cause I need to know when to be home to sign for it. -
Contact Sales Support tomorrow by phone. Ask a person for the UPS tracking number (which is only available after your package has passed Customs). The blow-by-blow UPS shipping history will give you an idea when you should be home to sign for the delivery.
By the way, don't forget to make your Recovery disks (1 CD for boot, plus 2 DVDs for data) after you have configured Windows 7 and seen your desktop. You'll need an external USB DVD writer as the X201 does not have an optical drive. -
I have the tracking number, its already passed through Alaska and has been in KY since Monday morning. Don't know what the deal is.
Here is the tracking info:

ANCHORAGE, AK, US 11/28/2010 10:31 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN

Those are the events before the package is released from Customs (where it is right now) and goes to UPS. The UPS tracking number will show you subsequent steps, like...
OUT FOR DELIVERY
DEPARTURE SCAN
ORIGIN SCAN
CARRIER AND CUSTOMS RELEASED
DEPARTURE
RECEIVED INTO UPS SCS POSSESSION
I'm not surprised if Customs is flooded with "Black Friday" packages like yours.
-
Oh alright cool so I will get a delivery estimate after that probably then. Itll have the same tracking number after it clears customs right?
-
Yep. UPS customs processing is in Kentucky, and sometimes it takes a little while to clear, but it'll be on its way soon.
-
Is that where? I couldn't remember where mine was processed, I just remember I got mine in two days, from Shanghai.
-
Grats. I love this laptop.
-
mines still in " Status: In process" hasnt left yet
-
The waiting is always the hardest part.
-
While waiting, you can always go online and look at the pictures of the said laptop, consider possible upgrades and just... drool.
-
Or you could be like this guy, who while waiting for his HP Slate to ship, made a wooden mockup complete with painted screen to see how different cases fit.
-
Ive been watching videos and stuff on youtube just to torture myself. Those dock stations look pretty cool, if I didn't already have a desktop id pick one of those up for sure.
-
must have too much time on his/her hand...
-
Just cleared customs! Scheduled to get here tomorrow, so pumped!
School is going to be absolute torture tomorrow
-
I can relate.
-
At the end of the day, it's just a tool, nothing more or less. Congrats on the tool nonetheless.
-
I prefer to think of it as toy/tool
