I ordered a 14.1" R61 on Saturday, and I just checked my configuration today to see if maybe there was a price drop for the price matching..

Now there's a 9 cell option in place of the old 7 cell option!! For 14.1" models. (I double-checked.)

I'm thinking of cancelling my order, if I can..

    Aw man...lame! I could've used the 9-cell when I made my purchase.

    Nice find though. Thanks!

Do you have to cancel the whole order just to switch from the 7 cell to a 9 cell? Also, any idea why on the T61 the 9 cell is actually cheaper than the 7 cell?

I got the R61 14.1 too. Is it true they are better plastic material compared to R61 15.4 ?? It shows different material on the spec sheets.

I got mine with a 4 cell. Dont want to see the battery sticking out. might consider buying an extra 9 cell down the road tho.

Whoops. My order shipped this morning, so I guess it's too late to cancel. Well, I called the customer service line and he said it's too late, and I would be charged a 15% fee even if I returned unopened. Based on some other threads, it seems that I could press the issue and maybe get a free return, but I'm not sure it's worth it for this issue.

But it is strange. I got the 6-cell because I remember the upgrade cost to 7 cell was more than $50 (I think?), but now the upgrade from 6 to 9 is only $37.50.

Ok, well, at least my 6 cell is a quarter pound lighter and sticks out a half inch less!

Actually, now I have a question. If I do want to buy a 9 cell as a replacement/backup, would it fit in the model I purchased?

Thing is, when I select R61 and my model number 7732 on the lenovo website, a 9 cell battery is still not listed there. But the model number of the R61 14.1" I captured a price quote for with the 9 cell is also 7732.

Probably I just need some patience, but is there any reason to believe my laptop won't support the 9 cell somehow? If not, can you tell me which 9 cell to buy in case I get really impatient? (I think it's this one, but I'm worried because the dimensions are a little different from the 6-7 cell batteries listed under R61 explicitly.) Thanks!

The 899.30 was the final price, including the warranty, after the USPSAVEMORE coupon was applied. The tax brought it to 948.77.

I was really happy with the price for the system--I don't need fancy graphics or the extra speedy hard drive, so I feel like I'm getting pretty much top-of-the-line performance for under $1000.

    Thanks! :)

I mean, I skipped out on the DVD-recordable and T9___ processor and bigger battery out of thrift, and now I'm learning the cons of those choices, but I'm getting a thinkpad!

Hehe, its tough isnt it. Once you lose some configs you want it again. Then you want to save and lose it. LOL

Yeah. The 15.4" R61 series uses ABS plastic, which IIRC isn't found on any other ThinkPad in the current lineup.

I confirmed with them that the 9-cell is available, but unfortunately at this point switching it would mean cancelling my whole order.

Incidentally, I noted some interesting statistics on the various batteries:

    4-cell: 14.4v*2.6AmpH= 37.44 WH
    6-cell: 10.8v*5.2AmpH= 56.16 WH
    7-cell: 14.4v*5.2AmpH= 74.88 WH

Now, presuming that the 9-cell is the same as the T60/R60/Z60 9 cell, we're looking at:

    9-cell: 10.8v*7.8AmpH= 84.24 WH

So the 9-cell is more powerful than the 7 cell, but there's more of a difference between the 7-cell and the 6-cell than the 9-cell and the 7-cell. So, while I wish I could've gotten the 9-cell, the 7-cell isn't all that bad. It's also actually double the WH of the 4-cell, so while the internals mean that it's a 7-cell it's performing like an 8-cell.

Incidentally, the Advanced Ultrabay battery is:
    3-cell: 10.8V*2.7AmpH= 29.16 WH

Did you ever find out if this is definitely the T61 wide screen 9 cell:

    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...1BDCE704020B8E567C67D3FA082&model-number=6369

If you enter the T61 wide screen code (6369) it comes up under battery products, but the battery's info only refers to it being for the "T60/R60/Z60m." One of the things that makes me unsure is that 7-cell that is definitely for the T61 wide screen is on sale for $159.00, while the 9-cell listed above is on sale for less ($134.25).

I don't know if it's that 9-cell, but there definitely is a 9-cell that will work with it.

As far as I know, the 9 cells battery only fits on the standard ratio T61 14" model. There seems to be physical differences with the battery bay dimensions. My guess is that the std ratio T61 is made from the T60 chassis actually. There are many little differences with the 14W (wide) T61 version. Look at the phone and mic jacks... They are in front on the wide and on the left side for the std ratio T61... etc.

That's how it used to be. They sell 9-cells for the 14" widescreens now. :D

    Check it out,

Anotherday: if you got an R series within the last 21 days w/o the coupon you can still benefit from it. Get a quote for the price that it would have cost had you used the coupon and call their customer support, they should refund you the difference.

I always check the Canadian side so I wasn't aware. It doesn't seem to be available yet on this side of the border. Oh well, I'll be happy with my standard ratio screen version :D The only thing I will not have is the built-in camera. Probably not a huge loss.
