Well, I got my Thinkpad and went on vacation without it, didn't have a lot of time to play around with it before I left. I finally came home and started using it. I think I found a dead pixel right smack in the center of the screen. I'm not sure what it means, but if I open firefox and place my mouse over the pixel, a little scrollbar pops up? What should I do, call Lenovo and see if they can swap out panels? I spent a lot so I really don't want to have to "deal with" the pixel. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I don't think it's a dead pixel (if the mouse pointer is reacting to it)
I think it has something to do with the Touchpad software. -
Hmmm, interesting. But the spot itself doesn't move or anything. Anybody else have this?
-
Can you post a screen shot?
That would also probably tell you whether it's a dead pixel or something else. -
Sure. I'll get right on it.
I'm waiting for it to start up. Is it customary for a machine this high end to take 10 minutes to start up? And it seemingly locks up sometimes, and just idles.
When I went to go access paint it just locked up. I would click on the start menu and nothing would happen. I waited 5 minutes, still nothing. I think there may be something severely wrong with my machine. It "Checks the status of the embedded security chip" for a good 5 minutes when starting up. It's rather irritating. -
Sounds like you need to call Lenovo's warranty department...
-
10 min to start-up?
Wow!
How much of bloatware do you have on it? -
None, just the standard IBM install of XP. I am running a good firewall and antivirus. I am very capable of keeping a clean PC. It just takes forever to load for some reason. You think I should do a reformat and then reinstall just the necessities from the IBM website? Maybe my ram is corrupt or something or other? Any way to check for stuff like that?
By the by, I think that pixel was related to the touchpad software, because it's gone now. -
Now on to the rest of the problems.
If you want to check the Ram, try memtest, it'll get the job done.
I really suggest that you try de-fragging the hard-drive too. -
I'm degragging right now. When it's done I'll do a memtest. Thanks!
-
No problem
-
Sounds like a dying Hard Drive.
I doubt though. -
How long does a memtest usually take?
-
I ran it 2 days ago on 2 gigs and it took somewhere around an hour.
-
I have 3 gigs. It's at about an hour in thusfar. How many different tests does it do?
-
Personally I don't know, I hear it will pick up most errors right away so if you really need to stop it you might be ok. There is a thread about it here:

Maybe there is some information there you could use. -
The RAM seems fine, but it's still slow. I decided to do a fresh install of XP. I'll keep you updated if I have any problems.
-
The Windows XP setup said there aren't any hard disk drives installed on my computer? What the heck?
-
Nevermind, forgot to look at the clean install guide.
A dead pixel on my T60p?
