    I upgraded my hard disk last month from a Hitachi 160gb to a 320gb.

    All was fine until last week I developed a corrupt registry hive. I followed the Microsoft instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

    This requires you to boot from the Windows XP disc and it does not recognize the hard disc in AHCI mode since it doesn't have the drivers. So I put the controller in compatiability mode and I completed the process.

    Now I can boot up again, but I get a BSOD when I switch back to AHCI mode even after re-installing the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers.

    Any ideas?

    What Intel driver are you using? The Lenovo provided one or the latest from Intel directly?

    That's an older version iirc, try using the latest from Intel, for the chipset driver, I used the latest Intel one and it works well, supposed to fix a few bugs from previous versions.

    Tried the Intel link and downloaded ver 8.2.0.1001, but during install it says my computer is not supported and quits. This is strange since I have a Core 2 Duo T7300 with a 965 chipset.

    The computer runs very slow in the compatibility mode, so I may have to go back to the old drive and reclone it since I don't want to do a clean install of Windows...

    Thanks for your help.

    dok_indo,

    Ok, since you're in compatibility mode, I don't think you can just update it from the Device Manager. This is what you will have to do:

    1. Download the 7tim04ww.exe from Lenovo, then extract it to a folder;

    2. Download the floppy version f6flpy32.zip from Intel, then extract it to another folder;

    3. Now replace all the files(.inf, .cat, .sys) in 7tim04ww with the files from f6flpy32;

    4. Run install.cmd in the 7tim04ww\PREPARE folder;

    5. Reboot the machine, enter BIOS and switch back to ACHI mode;

    Hope this will work.

    :)
