So, some of you may know that my other ThinkPads have come from my local university's surplus dept., and my school is constantly THROWING AWAY perfectly good computers, under warranty!

    I snagged a T510 with a Core i5-520M and a NVIDIA NVS 3100 for....$30.

Yes, thirty bones. The way it goes, surplus sells any laptop it has for $30, regardless of specs or age. They're sold as-is, no hard drives, sometimes no other components.

This T510 needs a bit of work: it has a cracked screen, no HDD, no RAM, no keyboard, no battery, no charger, non-functioning board, but the unit is UNDER WARRANTY until 2013. I have to fix the screen myself (no TPP, just depot warranty) and put in a few parts, but the other issues can be fixed by the service techs.

Pretty excited about this machine. It will become my main rig, finally bringing me into the era of "modern" computing (anything above a C2D).

That's a damn good deal. I need to scrounge around my university's computer lab for these sort of deals.

Find another 15in thinkpad like that let me know Ill buy one! I too am stuck with 2 core 2 duos. Fine for now but running 3 VMs makes me miss my XPS with a quad core i7...

A 1080p 15in with quad core would be most useful to me right now.
