LEnovo apparently uses Samsung. Anyone know where to get a 2GB stick cheap? I can get Crucial for $40 less than the memory offered by Lenovo's parts dept. If the specs are the same shouldnt make a difference but is it better to get matching manufacturers?

No just get the same specs and they should play nice together! Save your money buy what is cheapest.

Who is "us"? Ohio State?

Nice find Hoaray that is 800 mhz memory the Santa Rosa I believe maxes out at 667 mhz for memory even though it has an 800 mhz FSB, but a great price. Should clock down to 667 just fine I imagine.

Is Micsys a trusted memory brand?

The three laptops I have gotten in the last 12 months have all had Hynix RAM installed from the factory. Two of the three now have Hynix + Crucial and are working great.
-
I thought Lenovo used Hynix ram?
-
I don't know why, but this is the cheapest stick of 2gb memory i could find...and 800mhz tends to be more expensive.
Could there be any deleterious results from this inside my thinkpad? Should i stick with 667 instead? -
i know one website based in PA that sells thinkpad proprietary (samsung) 2 gig RAM for around $80.
-
Don't buy that RAM. Look for something with a lifetime warranty (most ram comes with lifetime warranties).

Do you have a short memory (no pun intended)? It was only 2004. Venue: Rose Bowl Score: 28-14 but the score doesn't tell the whole story.
