    Hey all,

I have an X301, and was wondering if there is any other use for the ultrabay other than the dvd-rw or extra battery?
What kind of plug does it use? Is there anything like an ExpressCard adapter for it? Anything?

I'm just finding that it is being taken around less and less, and so wouldn't mind using that port for extra connectivity if possible.

    Thanks
    Michael

Edit: Otherwise, is the actual connection the same as other Thinkpads, just the physical dimensions of the bay are smaller? Is there an extension cable that I could use to plug something else in?

The best use of the ultrabay is the 2nd hdd adapter. Then you can travel with way more data than you could possibly possibly carry with you on CDs.

    Hey Volker,

thanks for the reply. The X301 uses a smaller bay then all other Thinkpads (other than the X300) at 7.5mm height. So I suspect nothing else fits in there, but if I could find a cable that could just sit in there then I could plug in other accessories. Even a converter cable to SATA would be good...

Oops yep. Though in my defense, the swappable optical drive/battery in the x301 is not called "ultrabay".

You got three choices for the bay on the X301 - the DVD burner, the battery or the weight saver. The bay on the X301 is not modular like other ThinkPads, but whatever device is in there is secured to the chassis with a screw.
