Thanks for the heads up.
Incredible. It still doesn't cease to amaze me how cheaply you can buy a ThinkPad in the US. -
Watching the nonstop deals on x61 and the tablet I am beginning to get the idea that there is a new model in the x series coming up. and all the deals are a clean up of the existing stock. I'm just guessing. any ideas folks?

i think they're coming with a widescreen model for the x series

I have been having the same thoughts, but there are quite a lot of deals on the T-series as well. In any case, I don't know what Lenovo is up to. Whether they introduce a widescreen model or not, which btw is just a rumour, I don't see the need to offer massive discounts like this.
Especially on the ThinkPads which are supposed to be more exclusive/expensive like the X61, I don't think they are doing themselves a favor with the extensive discount campaign. I think they are undermining some of their products, making their products much more mainstream. -
they can't even keep up with the customer service issues related to selling at this volume...they are just overdoing themselves and upsetting more customers in the long run

Back when IBM owned the ThinkPads, their prices were much higher than their competitors. Now that Lenovo owns the ThinkPad line, the prices have plummeted to an all time low. I believe Lenovo is trying to be more competitive in the laptop market.

I agree. They have changed strategy completely. They are focusing much more on consumer sales than in the past when IBM was still in charge. At the end of the day it is all about money. IBM didn't make any money in the end. Lenovo is apparently earning enough of it. So maybe that is their reasoning: a volume strategy.
I guess they are taking on Dell and HP head-on in many ways. I just think they should try and keep ThinkPads as exclusive as possible (while still making a profit of course), since the ThinkPad branding and image is quite unique in the notebook industry. If ThinkPads become just as mainstream as i.e. Dell notebooks, they might make a lot of money, but I think it will hurt the brand a lot. Unfortunately I think they are well on their way of doing so. -
it doesn't seem to work now.
