Any chance the earthquake will effect Thinkpad production? That's only a little north of one of the production facilities if I'm not mistaken.

i hope it wont hurt anyone,in this case Lenovo`s production is not that important...
-
This not quite on topic, but it is irresistible.
Apparently, some California researchers are developing software that will allow the motion sensors in laptops (presumably to protect the hard drive) to detect earth tremors. They envisage a network of laptops with the right software and motion sensors serving as part of an early-warning system for quakes.
See http://www.technologyreview.com/Infotech/20658/.
Apple, Lenovo, Acer and HP laptops are named in the article. It seems the software has already been developed for the Macs. -

I think Lenovo will affect Lenovo's own production. They don't need help from an earthquake.
-
The inside info is that all new Lenovo notebooks will now come pre-loaded with Quake 7.8 (!)
lolzcats!!!! -
Glad to see a little humor here. I thought I would see endless posts about how insensitive I am to think of only production numbers in the face of such a tragedy.
Sooooo.......Do you think the prices will go up? -
I think the production might temporarily be shifted to Canada. Free Maple Syrup and a Celine Dion CD with purchase.
-
prices? I'd be more worried about shipment time. The battery fire at a Chinese factory was the reason my estimated shipping was almost two months. I can only imagine what would happen to shipments if the production facility was damaged by this quake.

LOL, Canadians really need production to move there. Then they actually may receive their machines in two months instead of three.
-
But why would the Canadians bother when there's China? Eh?
I just hope that earthquake doesn't affect my shipment.
Oh, and, the people of course. Naturally. -
Weird how people seem to think it takes quite a long time in Canada. (Yes I am Canadian)
My N200 order dated 05/26/07, shipped 05/30/07, and was signed for on 05/06/2007.
...Oddly enough I just sold that N200 the other day and ordered an X61 Tablet. I hope this one arrives quickly as well. But I suppose it might be delayed considering what just happened -
10,000 people dead and all you care is if your laptop will ship in time.
Wonderful place the Internet. -
-
well to put it bluntly
mother earth has an unique way of exercising population control..
and about the batts, i see that the 8cell option is open again for x61s -
Must have been really strange to have a laptop show up at your door before you begin to consider ordering it -
Heh, I suppose the format of the date changed midway through that sentence
-
Over 10,000 people died there and you just care about your shipment?
What a shame! -
World overpopulation doesn't justify trivializing this kind of catastrophe.
-
It seems like to someone a laptop is worth more than 10,000 lives. -
So for those of you whose sensibilities were offended I'll give you what you want......
OH! those poor people in China! It must be horrible!
I know it should have been at the beginning of the original post, but it will have to do here, I hope it does not get moved since it is off the topic of LENOVO. -
-
Lenovo is apparently donating $1.4 million to earthquake relief. See http://www.gamesbids.com/cgi-bin/news/viewnews.cgi?category=1&id=1210692536.

Let's just hope that ALL the money is actually going to the relief, and not have a part go into a few government pockets.

Unfortunately, 8.5 million USD is around 3 yuan.
On a more serious note, I agree with zephyrus and our church is definitely praying for the people of China. -
-
But to take cash at the expense of the injured/homeless. That's just sickening. -

hm...Lenovo sale rep said that it "shouldn't" effect any productions and shipment date.
Let wait and see whether my thinkpad will arrive delay or not...
