I am not sure I want to order from ok1,de when I have waited 3+ weeks for a email respons, so if any other shops are out there (maybe even with UK keyboard instead of german) with the same prices
-
www.nofost.de
www.lapstars.de
Btw, I send ok1.de an email and got a reply the next day (they do speak English) I asked about the German keyboard, they said they could replace it with a keyboard of choice for 50 euro. Also warranty would not be a problem as they offer "3 Jahre Vor-Ort-Service" so 3 year international on-site warranty.
Like you, I'm still not sure about ok1.de, they do get good reviews on a German thinkpad forum: ThinkPad-Forum.de - Startseite although that forum seems to be sponsored by them..
Ordering one from the U.S. could be an option as well, have a look at:
- PROVANTAGE SuperStore: Buy GPS Computers Electronics Software More or
- eBay My World - newthinkpads they both ship internationally. -
Guess I need to try to mail them again. I used the onsite form last time but can see I mailed them directly (Through my own email client) another time and got answer the same day.
Do you know how to see the student prices on lapstars.de - Lenovo Notebooks und deren Zubehör Only thing I can find is https://www.lapstars.de/product_info.php?cPath=228_913&products_id=7227 but thats not a price but merely a notification that you need to be a student or teacher
Have considered ordering from the US but the warrenty is not as good and with my countrys 25% VAT its not really worth the effort, except that seems to be the only way to conifgure it myself -
Why is that? Lenovo international warranty should be the same in most countries?
Are you looking for a specific model? On lapstars.de look for the "Studi/WiMi" models
If your looking for a Thinkpad: Thinkpad-Studi/WiMi->
EDIT: Some models like T420s and X220 have a pricing of 0.00 EUR because they are not available (yet?) -
I'm interested...do they ship internationally?
-
https://www.lapstars.de/information.php?info_id=29:
"... Diese Versandkosten gelten nur innerhalb von Deutschland. Für EU-Versand berechnen wir pro Auftrag 19,90€" (These shipping costs apply only within Germany. For EU, we charge 19,90€ shipping per order)
So seems like they do, at least EU countries. -
On the Campus models you get 3 year onsite, on for example LENOVO THINKPAD W520 i7-2720QM, 1920 x 1080, FHD, 2000M | eBay you get 3 year depot which is not as good from what I understand
But 20 euro for EU shipping is really cheap. Just think I will wait for a quad core sandy bridge first. Too bad prices are not here yet
-
yes, but anybody can buy a Studi/Wimi model? I've tried entering my datas, but nobody asked me if i'm a sudent and so... -
Dont know, I cant find out what the difference is between studi/wimi and Uni/FH but pretty sure they will ask for scanned papers documenting your studying.
-
I asked the same question about ordering from ok1.de by email and their answer was:
"As a student you can order any of the discounted products which you can find at ok1.de.The only thing we need is a copy of your student ID or a similar document which you can send bay mail"
So it seems that a document from your school or university stating you are officially enrolled will do
-
lapstars.de does't answer at all...I'm going to try with ok1.de
do you have already ordered it? -
Another German store selling Thinkpads at student-prices: Campus Point
-
Campus Point does not seem to ship outside Germany and Austria, at least not according to their website.
It would be a true deal breaker if I could order a student model to Poland from one of these shops, provided they could supply the machine with U.S. International keyboard layout.
I'll be very curious to know your opinion on them!
M. -
You can pick your order up though:
CampusPoint Bremen - IT Supplies GmbH Hard- und Software-Service
Bibliothekstrasse 3
28359 Bremen
Not sure what the distance is from Poland. Or you could ask them by email if they will send it to Poland. -
I just did. I also sent e-mails to NOFOST, OK1.DE and LAPSTAR.DE with questions about shipping and swapping the keyboard questions. I will post here when I will get some answers, as they may be relevant to others as well.
Going to Germany in person is an option as well - it still will be MUCH cheaper than buying locally without a student discount.
Edit:
Lapstars.de just replied. They are fast! They can swap the keyboard for U.S. Intl. layout for 35.90EUR. They also happily ship across the EU after sending them a scan of a student identity card.
To swap the keyboard one just have to order this "virtual" item:
https://www.lapstars.de/product_info.php?cPath=274&products_id=2359
along the notebook, and they will take care of everything for you.
M. -
So did I, answer from ok1.de: "An US English or Danish or any other keyboard would be 50 EUR extra"
Strange thing still is, I can't find any other countries that offer a special student service. I'm from the Netherlands, can't find them there or in Belgium, UK or France. -
So we have two shops that can ship across the EU and swap the keyboard for us. It's a great news!
According to:
Buyers Guide - ThinkWiki
The student discount indeed has a limited scope. I wonder why. There is no such thing in Poland either. Actually, our prices are totally crazy - I was seriously considering importing the laptop from U.S. by myself before finding this thread about discounted series.
M. -
you can use shop.lenovo.com
-
In the Netherlands there is a partnershop of surfspot.nl that sells thinkpads with student discounts. They currently only have the previous series, but they update their student deals before the beginning of each academic year.
-
Pretty sure they dont ship to europe.
Anyway I mailed both ok1 and lapstars.de and none of them have replied :S how come you get a respons -
Made my day
No T420(s) or X220 yet but prices seem reasonable, more or least equal to the German student sites.
Big advantage is that I could get an English version of Win7, a US keyboard and a power adapter that I can use in the Netherlands! (US and UK, different power adapter, Germany, different keyboard and a German version of Win7)
EDIT: Just send them an email asking if they will get the X220, T420 and T420s in the (near) future. -
I would also be interested in their response.
-
Will post when I get an answer (hopefully tomorrow)
-
Its unfair you get answers :S
-
It's strange that you don't. Do you mail them in English, German or Danish? I do understand your frustration though, I would never order from a shop that doesn't answer email, no matter how bad I wanted something
-
Mailed them this
The latter I know now, but still its odd -
The difference here is that Studi/WiMi can be ordered be any student or employe working at an university. The discount/better variety for UNI/FH is only appliable if the e.g. the department of economics is the oderer.
-
For the record: as said earlier, it is possible to order a discounted version from Germany with US keyboard layout and English Win7 ver.
Power adapter would be different though.
M. -
Was it a price bump for getting the english version of Win7?
-
as i know, if you buy it from lenovo online store, they do ship to europe.
-
Who offered to change the Windows preload for you? Was it Lapstars, Ok1 or one of the others?
I've had a ready shopping basket sitting at Lapstars for a few days now, but want to confirm whether or not they can set me up with English Windows before I place the order. However, I, too, am not getting any replies to my e-mails. =( -
Have anyone (not from Germany) gotten replies from ok1 and lapstars?
I'm sure the recieve a lot of email at the moment, but still...I have sent emails quite some time ago now
-
I got a reply from ok1.de pretty quick. I asked them about warranty (" 3 Jahre Vor-Ort-Service"), they replied it was valid international as it is IWS.
Asked them about the German keyboard, they will replace it with a keyboard of choice for 50 euro's. I'm still waiting for the T420(s) and X220 to show up on a Dutch version of a student discount site(megasellers, partner of surfspot.nl), if they won't I'll probably go with ok1.de (stripped down version of x220 for 690 euros!) -
You didn't, by any chance, also ask about English Windows?
-
I still havent gotten any replies from last weeks mail, but I found out my danish contact can soon get some uk models which should be cheaper than ok1
-
Unfortunately I didn't but.. At campuspoint.de they charge 19,90 for an English install. They also offer a few models 'ohne Betriebssystem' or without any operating system. Could come in handy if you are a MSDN member, you already have a copy of a Windows 7 version or (like me) want to install a Linux version anyway.
-
Hi Mech0z,
Are you able to share your contact with a fellow Dane?
I am looking for a student laptop too.
Thanks in advance -
I did. That's what I got:
The reply is from lapstars.de of course. -
Ok1.de and NOFOST have not (yet?) replied, but lapstars.de reply prompty with very short delays. I got all the answers I wanted and I am pretty much settled on ordering from them.
Mateusz -
What email do you use? Maybe they blocked gmail (Which I used)?
-
It's technically a gmail account, but I use it with my own domain.
M. -
He said yes, but I cant PM (I can to everyone else) you so cant give you his email..
Then I still dont understand how some people get instant repsons while others are just ignored :s -
Did you hear anything from megasellers?
The X220 deals of those German sites are excellent, especially without OS. (940 EUR - Core i5-2520 and IPS panel) If Intel decides to release a graphics driver supporting OpenCL, I could be tempted to get an X220 instead of the unreasonably expensive W520. -
Ah, but unlike Lapstars, they don't offer Swedish keyboards. I'm starting to lean towards just ordering the machine and asking for an English preload in the comment field. If I get it, good. If not, I'll wiggle in a MUI language pack somehow.
I do have a MSDN access (and will be dual-booting Linux, though that doesn't affect my need for a Windows installation
), but I want the Enhanced Experience tweaks, especially as I'm opting for an HDD rather than SSD (for cost reasons). It's too bad Lenovo doesn't offer them as a download.
-
Yay! Thanks for the information! =)
-
There are some Swedish Lenovo keyboards on Ebay (keyboard of the Thinkpad model you want to order might not be for sale yet because they are new) and replacing the keyboard on a Thinkpad is pretty straightforward, check out these video's on http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com
-
About Linux, T420 for example seems to be awarded the status of Certified on Ubuntu PC (x86).jazdc said: ↑I do have a MSDN access (and will be dual-booting Linux, though that doesn't affect my need for a Windows installation

Ubuntu on Lenovo Thinkpad T420 | Ubuntu:
"A special image of Ubuntu is available via the computer manufacturer designed for this specific computer. It takes advantage of hardware features for these systems and may include proprietary software and codecs. Please contact the computer manufacturer for access to that specific Ubuntu operating system version"
So Lenovo might offer a download, just not a Windows 7 one
-
Really? At least the Lenovo UK online CTO prices are clearly above the German ones. Or does your contact have a different source?Mech0z said: ↑I still havent gotten any replies from last weeks mail, but I found out my danish contact can soon get some uk models which should be cheaper than ok1

Wow, that's less than a third of the price compared to buying one here. So even with shipping it should be way less. Still, though, I'm not sure it works out to less than the 35 that lapstars want for it. And even though changing a Thinkpad keyboard is relatively easy, changing the Windows display language is still a bit easier.abachofner said: ↑There are some Swedish Lenovo keyboards on Ebay (keyboard of the Thinkpad model you want to order might not be for sale yet because they are new) and replacing the keyboard on a Thinkpad is pretty straightforward, check out these video's on http://www.lenovoservicetraining.comClick to expand...
Cool, didn't know that. Thanks for the tip!abachofner said: ↑About Linux, T420 for example seems to be awarded the status of Certified on Ubuntu PC (x86).Click to expand...
Hehe. =)So Lenovo might offer a download, just not a Windows 7 one

Me neither. Were you trying to reach them at [email protected] during business hours? Maybe they have trouble replying to tons of emails accumulated over the night or something?Mech0z said: ↑Then I still dont understand how some people get instant repsons while others are just ignored :sClick to expand...
I sent both e-mails around 4 p.m. their time.
M.
