Yeah, but they couldn't get in to student dorm, so they will deliver it today. They didn't have my number, should have asked lapstar to add it as a comment to the package. Wasted my day waiting it.
-
I wonder where mine might be... =/ -
I just received my UPS tracking e-mail. It lists May 3rd as the estimated date of delivery. So far unclear whether it's UPS or lapstars that have screwed up. Oh well, guess my weekend just got freed up.
Soharda, when did you place your order and transfer the money? -
If mine is concerned, I know basically nothing about it now
The model is still listed as 2-4 days on the site (after being "green-lit" for few hours before). I am pretty much sure my money transfer hasn't yet been delivered to lapstars.de or will be today, so I'm not worried in the least.
I am going to enjoy my long weekend (it's a national holiday here, so I have 4 days off) and ask them about my X220 after that. Unless it ships by then of course.
Best of luck in getting your machines ASAP! -
Got it like 10 minutes ago )
What was inside:
Smaller box with notebook itself
Small pack of HARIBO candies

Hope Systembolaget will be when I'm done with this guy ^^
My config is:

Haribo! Nice touch

My order just went from Open to In Processing, so I guess my money transfer just got there
Can't wait to see it shipped. Unfortunately, on the site X220's still are not available in stock.
Update: They went to "In stock"/"Ready to ship" on the site today. Yay! -
I just got my T420 a few hours ago, and am typing this on it. I'll have a review and some photos (next to the X40) tomorrow. So far very happy (English preload, as promised, and all upgrades performed to my satisfaction), except that I didn't get any Haribo sweets, and also no travel bezel. The latter wasn't on the manifest either, so I guess they didn't have any in stock and decided to ship the rest anyway. Still, I would have expected a note about it, either in the package or via e-mail, as that would mean they owe me either a supplemental delivery or 17. In short, Lapstars get great marks in all areas except communication, where they're actually pretty lousy.
As for the machine itself, it has so far met or exceeded expectations in all regards. The keyboard, especially, is great even by Thinkpad standards. Turning to the (in)famous screen, it's better than both the X40 and the T61, and I understand what people mean when they call it grainy (it's something I didn't notice the first time I looked at a T420 screen a few weeks ago, before reading all about it). However, I'd rather say that it looks a little bit textured in the same way that matte photo prints do. It's like a very light version of the effect you get from a privacy screen. -
Well it seems at least 2 people in Europe recieved their Thinkpads. Looking forward to more 'user reviews' Could a European owner who purchased through lapstars (or any German retailer) do a ' warranty lookup' please?
I'm curious if the location states Germany or the current fysical location (i.e. Sweden) -
I'll be glad to help - though with this particular question our friends who already got their machines will be faster than me.
Anyway, my X220 got shipped few minutes ago - at least that's when the order changed status from "processing" to "shipped". I really hope to get my Himari on Monday.
I will be doing a photo shoot and a solid review based on my highly abusive experience with my T42. In other words, I'm going to put this baby to everyday use my way. Therefore you will know really soon how tough these new babies are.

I'm waiting for the UPS mail with tracking number... still nothing yet.
But the facial expressions of people not used to ThinkPads Everywhere (tm) are truly precious when I casually handle the machine the way their computers would never survive for more than few days.

-
I will!
Thanks!
-
F... pressed one of the forward/backward button deleted everything I typed.
Anyways installed Win7 x64 MSDN/ Ubuntu 11.04 32bit version, since x64 gave me error during installation. Other than that my blue button does nothing ) and notebook refuses to boot when it has my phone(SGS) connected to it.
Very happy with it. -
I did not get the UPS Quantum e-mail, but Mario gave me an UPS tracking number in a reply to my question today. So now I know that my X220 has already departed from Berlin and is on its way to Poland. Having prior experience with UPS deliveries from Germany, I am pretty sure I will have my Himari on Monday morning - the delivery guy here knows me well and always begins his work day with my parcels
M. -
I am truly an impatient lad, I guess. The parcel is in my city now, and theoretically will be sitting there till Monday, because there are no delivery during weekends. I will try snatching the parcel tomorrow in person though. I don't know if it is possible at all, but I will try.
M. -
Himari is at home
After enough doddling I will try to prepare a decent review. After few minutes I'm blown away and really happy I got a ThinkPad again!
Some photos for the curious
Yes, Haribo were there too! -
Congrats on Himari!
How's the laptop in general? I think jazdc will be upset as he hasn't got Haribos with his order (maybe the courier people got hungry and ate his?
).
-
Thanks!
Maybe the delivery guy got hungry indeed?
The Haribo pack was really really small though - I wished for a full size
The laptop is wonderful. Definitely an upgrade from my T42. Build quality is on par, or even better. This thing is sturdy and really solid. The lid has some more flex than my T42, but it is only natural considering how much thinner it is - it still feels very rigid, as always. I have no worries holding Himari by the open lid in the air.
The fact that I feel comfortable using this machine like I used my T42 means it is really well-built.
I have no issues with backlit spill, the temperatures seem fine too. The fan is audible, but pleasent. T42 was much more noisy.
The only thing I don't like is the trackpoint, which is much less precise than I am used to. Maybe it just needs some tweaking in the drivers - I haven't tried to customize that yet. T42 was buttery smooth, this one is not.
The touchpad on the other hand is very good - I wasn't convinced about the textured surface, loving my smooth old touchpad, but it is very soft and comfortable to use. I have no issues with the clickpad either - not missing the buttons at all.
One thing I will miss - the latchless lid is impossible to open one-handed, which I always did with my T42. But it's something I will get used to, not a serious drawback by any means.
More info soon

Greetings from Finland!
I am thinking about buying Thinkpad X220i after so many great reviews on the web.
Do you think they can ship it to Finland? Anyone has experience before?
By the way as I am a university student does it means that I could get this price? 690 Euros Link
Thanks!
Update:
By the way after reading through the thread it seems that for university student Lapstar.de have Studi/WiMi options.
Also thanks to abachofner who did tell about the shipping cost to EU countries of Eur19.90.
My question is maybe a bit silly now. Do I need to pay VAT once the laptop arrives from Germany to Finland??
Kiitos! -
- Yes, they will ship outside of Germany, both jazdc(Sweden) and maticomp(Poland) received their T420 and X220 without a problem.
- All the 'Lehre & Forschung' models (including the one from your link) can be ordered if you can give some sort of prove that you are a (international) student
- They seem to ship pretty fast but have a lot of trouble answering emails
- No VAT or other taxes need to be paid inside of the EU
- Keyboard can be ordered in any version (like US, NL or UK)
I'm trying to get a X220(t) from the US now, if that fails, lapstars will be my way to go. -
Thanks for your answer. Glad to hear that. I think there are some offers on Lenovo website and also a stackable coupon from Mastercard Market Place at this link.
Good luck with your purchase! -
Hey zul, fellow Finn here. I ordered my X220 25th of May and proved my student status by posting a photo of my student card.
The money transfer went through in a week and the order went into In processing state a week ago on Thursday. I'm still waiting for it to ship. -
I hope your x220 will arrive soon. -
Edit:
Forgot to mention that I had chosen to upgrade both RAM and harddisk, and gotten them to change the keyboard into a DK one -
The configuration I got was: X220 with i5-2520M, 8GB RAM, Intel 320 160GB SSD, SW/FI keyboard and 9-cell battery. -
It finally shipped! ETA is Friday. UPS is promising 5 day delivery.
-
It's been cloudy for the past few days, unfortunately.

Guys, thinkpad X1 available at lapstars.de for 1297 Euros. Nice!
-
I received my X220i yesterday. Got it from lapstars.de - I can really recommend them. Great customer approach, no issues at all, good contact. No issues with laptop itself.
-
I ordered mine on 18th, but with the 9 cell upgrade and unfortunately it's out of stock. I think i have to wait a bit
How long did it take to get the laptop? -
Afaik it was sent on 18th.
Ive ordered the laptop (4290W1A) + english keyboard.
Overall it took like 10 days because of specificity of the order (my order was outside the system, invoice and student discount) -
Same model but with the original keyboard+9cell. Thanks.
-
Can we order an X200i with upgraded display to IPS from Lapstar.de ?
-
, only regular parts can be upgraded(mem, hdd, battery,"os"). I was hesitating between the simple and ips but +250 eur is too much for it and i don't need the bigger cpu.
-

As I mentioned in other topics, screen is a little grainy (especially on white background). I also find brightness lower than 9-10 just too low. Colors are kinda dim, even compared to my desktop TN monitor (SyncMaster 226bw)
But its good enough for me. I mainly required from the screen is a matte display. -
-
Display: TN vs. IPS at Lenovo Thinkpad X220
Also, X1 showed up on the lapstars.de website, starting at 1297 euros ($1836) for the i5, 4GB, 320GB HD configuration.
The i5, 8GB, 160GB SSD will be 1749 euros ($2476) , guess i'll stick with the X220..
Any other acadamic shops in EU other than ok1.de that ship in Europe?
