I'm looking for a X220 / X220 tablet to supplement my school needs.

As the integrated GFX is greatly enhanced in the IB, it would probably be a huge gain over the SB models.

I noticed that the X220 series was released around April last year, and was thinking it would be around the same for the new X series.

Should I wait or jump on the X220 models right now?

Ivy Bridge QM77 will be released in May. I'd wait and see what's next.

I guess it depends. I just bought one knowing that Ivy Bridge would be out in June since I bet the manufacturers won't completely switch over until they deplete their SB stock. This could be an extra 1-2 months, which brings you to the "Back to School" shopping period. That is also awfully close to the release date of Windows 8 so you might as well just wait the extra 2-3 months for that and the cycle repeats itself. In technology, I always think it is better to just get stuff when you need them and worry about the new technology later. If it is very important to you, get a cheaper model used now and then sell it a few months later when the new processors come out at little to no loss.

I doubt Lenovo will release a new model until Ivy Bridge comes out in June, though they might announce something soon. I'm just hoping Intel doesn't delay things even more, though the way AMD is competing now, Intel just might!

Typically, the new T-series is announced with the release of Intel's new platform, with orders accepted immediately. The X-series usually follows by a couple months, though. But who knows; with the long delay this time around, Lenovo might just make the X-series a release model as well.

There was a rumour circulating last week about IB being delayed until June. However, whether that means nothing until June or a limited release earlier (using scarcity to charge premium prices) remains to be seen. We can be sure tha clearance of the SB inventory without using clearance pricing mush be on Intel's agenda.
