Is the Barnes and Noble Gold Discount always 25%? It says the offer is until july 1st but is there going to be a new 25% coupon next week or something?
-
No, can be just 10%
-
Any idea how often that discount updates? I'm trying to decide when to pull the trigger.
-
That discount is always around. Just keep an open eye on it when it comes up.
-
You can combine the Barnes and Noble discount if you haggle over the phone. I was able to use BN, the 10% email discount, and some small talk to get 24% off of my W520 brand-new.
-
What's the email discount? Is that the one where you sign up to let them send you offers and such? It wouldn't let me combine that and the BN one, it says in the fine print too. Maybe it was different back then though.

No, it was the same back then too. "Use this 10% email promotion on your *next* Lenovo purchase." Even though you can't really combine them, if you haggle enough over the phone you'll be able to.
The key is to eat the sales agent's time, I suppose. Took 90 minutes total to order my laptop, and I only paid $1665 for a $2167 system. -
Interesting... Never really haggled before. What in the world do you talk about for 90 minutes? Is it really just convincing them to lower the price the whole time, talking like you could go with another brand, etc?

Basically started off telling him my situation (rising engineering student, needed a powerful laptop). Pointed him to the configuration I had online and I low-balled for $1400 (was hoping for $1600-1700 realistically). Followed the tips from DR650SE's haggling guide (in my sig) and the agent would sometimes go back and forward with "his managers". When they were thinking, I'd small talk with him, talking about whatever (started off with the NC tornadoes from last year, relevant since the call center is in Raleigh). Tried getting a free dock as well, though it wasn't working, so I "settled" for the $1665.
-
I think it just got re-applied. I got approximately 45% off the W530 ($747) using B&N Gold + the Current Discount + a 15% off email I had languishing in my inbox. The rep told me to get it last week for $330 more, so I'm glad I waited.
-
You were able to combine the discounts? Hmm...
I swear Lenovo's pricing is worse than haggling with a used car dealer. -
Could you use the email code on the B&N Gold site, or did you have to call them? How do you get on the list for the email codes? Sounds like a pretty good deal--I had no idea you could use email codes with the B&N site. Thanks.
-
I signed up for: Communication Preferences | Lenovo | (US)
Went to the B&N site, applied the coupon code there, and then added the coupon code from the email (it was 15% a couple of weeks ago, I think it's a 10% discount now).
For what it's worth, my rep did say that the B&N discount was cheaper than his employee discount, and "the manager" wouldn't negotiate on pricing. -
B&N is having some great deals on the X220 as well. You can pick up an I3 with IPS panel, bluetooth and a camera for $680.
If you can add one of those email discounts, you can get it down to ~ $600. Wow. Shame I'm not in the market ATM or I would jump on one of these.
-
That's really odd. I signed up for that as well and it wouldn't let me apply both...

For people who are waiting to order a W530, the BN Gold program discount is currently 25% (e-coupon USXWEEK0705 through 07/11). The deal can be combined with the additional e-mail coupon code you may have received (mine is an additional 15% off when I first signed up). I have just completed the following order:
Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
NVIDIA Quadro K2000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory
4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
UltraNav with Fingerprint Reader
320GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable
9 Cell Li-Ion TWL 70++
Bluetooth 4.0 with Antenna
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
Mobile Broadband upgradable
1 Year Depot/Express Warranty
3Yr Base Warranty Extension
Total Price including tax and CA recycling fee: $1291.57
IMHO, this is the best W530 price I've seen to date. -
Holy moly, just noticed this too!!!! When did you sign up for the e-mail offer though? I did a few days ago and it's only 10% off, and won't let me combine.
Any particular reason you upgraded to the 3720 i7? -
Holy crap, which I could have taken 40% off my laptop! Oh well :/
Right now I'm playing with the W530 and so far it's a nice laptop. Still not sure if I like where Lenovo is going with the keyboard though. -
How long does it take the coupon to come? I signed up earlier today, but I haven't received anything yet--not even a confirmation that I signed up. (I'm really hoping for a coupon...)
-
I signed up for the e-mail about a week and half ago...guess I got lucky.
I didn't really "upgrade" to 3720, as it is part of the base configuration. In order to pick 3610 i7 I believe you have to choose the cheaper base configuration, and you'll discover that the price difference between 3610 and 3720 is only $80 (this is only true for Lenovo). -
I signed up too today...nothing yet. I even put my birthday as July 6, hoping they would email me a coupon tomorrow for my...birthday...
-
what was your build for the W530 - that is a steal!
-
I'm not really a gamer, so I went with the base processor/graphics, upgraded the display to 1920 x 1080, backlight keyboard, Centrino Ultimate Wireless, and the 9-cell battery. It ended up coming to $966.72 with tax.
Once I get a little bit more cash I'll probably hunt down one of the Samsung SSDs and extra RAM. -
I just did that exact configuration on B&N's site and it's coming up over $1,200 after the discount (pre-tax).
I wish I knew how people were stacking all these discounts, because nothing works for me. If you add a second code, it kicks out the primary code. -
Same here... The B&N is all I can apply. I have a really similar build to both you guys as well. Ends up a little over $1400 with the current discount.
-1080p screen
-K2000m
-Backlit KB
-Intel 6300 wifi card
-Bluetooth 4.0
-3yr base warranty extension -
I tried to stack up the coupons once and it did not let me. The rep said it cannot stack because it already had a coupon the most he gave me was the 25%
-
I guess if anyone got to stack somehow, consider yourself very lucky. Oh well, ordering anyway.
-
25% is still a great discount though. About the biggest discount I've seen (that's consistently applied) is 28% (typically on HP Elitebook CTO orders).
-
Agreed; especially since the W530 came out last month. I woke up way earlier than I thought I would yesterday for some school-related stuff and just got lucky.
-
Holy crap, you guys all have really low prices compared to mine. I'm ordering a W530 next weekend, and trying to get the price down as much as possible. Adding the ecoupon code CAXWEEK0705 on the Canadian Student site, it comes to CAN$1,550.67 before taxes, so after taxes it's pretty much $1800, which is the limit of what I can spend.
This is the setup I need:
Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
NVIDIA Quadro K1000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory
4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
UltraNav with Fingerprint Reader
500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable
6 Cell Li-Ion TWL 70+
Bluetooth 4.0 with Antenna
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
3Yr Base Warranty Extension
I'd like to get the K2000M and the 9-cell, and possibly TPP, but I'm already over budget. Anybody able to find a way to beat the price on this setup in the Canadian store? I am fairly certain that the B&N discount doesn't work in Canada, but I'd love to be proven wrong. -
Welp, I was waffling back and forth on an X230 build and finally settled on this:
X230
Intel Core i5-3210M Processor
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
12.5" Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, 2x2 Antenna
Intel HD 4000 Graphics
4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
Keyboard Backlit - US English
UltrNav with FingerPrint Reader
720p HD Camera
500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
9 Cell ThinkPad Battery X44++
65W AC Adapter - US (2pin)
Bluetooth 4.0 with Antenna
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN
Mobile Broadband upgradable
3Yr Base Warranty Extension
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Tax: $70.19
[THINKBTS711]: -$302.16
Total: $1,094.86
All in all, I wanted something very portable and powerful. I've owned a X200, X200t, X220t and have been using a Macbook Pro for a while. I miss a good keyboard so I've decided to go Lenovo again. Also, a little secret to save more is call up Lenovo and try to cancel the order. They will almost immediately knock off 10% to keep the order. I'm not planning on doing it, but it worked when I ordered a previous machine (that I did in fact cancel). -
New unique codes don't stack anymore.
-
I guess I am bringing this thread back to life lol. I wonder why there has not been any posts here in 9 months...why is that?
It was very easy to join and I was surprised. Have they dropped the average discount amount in the last 9 months? Is that why this post is dead? -
Eh, I just think that the BN discount was well-known enough that people just stopped posting. IIRC, BN gave me roughly a 15% discount on my W520 when I bought it.
-
They are up at 22% now. So are there ever any other well know discounts that I am not aware of?
-
Anyone else having trouble with the BN discount since the website update a couple of days ago?
-
Yes, the B&N does not seem to work. Also the Lenovo stock discount (spp) does not seem to work either. I may give the sales people a call next week and see what is up.
-
I tried to get on for the first time on a long while. I could not get logged in. Did they kill it? Is anyone able to get on?
-
B&N is working for me but the discounts don't seem as great as before. Maybe it varies from sale to sale.
-
B&N Gold discount still works and does seem to fluctuate periodically. Curious, I point-blank asked a sales rep about it via the chat function on the Lenovo website. He could only confirm that the B&N discount is indeed the deepest discount they offer to the public. But I've read about the Employee Purchase Program having an even deeper discount than B&N Gold, and asked him when the next EPP event will be. He basically ended the conversation at that point without answering the question.
-
Well, you have to be an employee to get the EPP discount...
I'm curious how much of a discount Lenovo/IBM stockholders get. -
Probably none, although they do get a small percentage of all the money they're paying into the company.
-
There definitely is a discount program for shareholders, but I'd wager it's about the same as B&N Gold. I wouldn't count on the employee pricing being much better than the B&N Gold pricing, either.
-
Looks as though Lenovo/IBM shareholder discount is currently around 17%, whereas B&N is around 20%. The Lenovo outlet has discounts upwards of 40%-50% but its mostly refurbs and scratch/dent.
-
That is correct.
IBM employee pricing is the same as BN. -
Guys, sorry for stupid question, but how can one get this type of account/discount?
Thanks. -
Just have to make an account. That's it. Supposedly it's only for people in education (students, staff, etc.), though I've never seen Lenovo check me for proof of me being a student.
Barnes and Noble Gold | Lenovo | (US) -
Thanks, will try tonight.
-
Does anyone have a link to the SIGN-In page? I have an account and usually just google lenovo gold and get the sign in page. For some reason, I am only getting the sign-UP page. I just need to sign-in.
-
Can you try the link a couple of posts up in this thread? It worked for me just now.
