I recently acquired a Thinkpad (Z60m). I just want to ask a few questions.

I usually use the laptop plugged in the socket. Is it continuously charging even if it's 100% charged. Is there an option to make the battery stop charging?

I'm getting a "Limited or no connectivity" issue when I try to connect the laptop to a pc via LAN (not wireless). The wireless internet works though. I have disabled the firewall on both computers but still no go. Is it possible that it's because of IBM's software? Is there a way to fix this?

    Thank you.

Well, I'm not sure about IBM's software because I'm inexperienced at it, though don't worry about the battery. When plugged in, it pretty much stops charging the battery, though it powers the computer via the AC so the battery power doesn't go down.

The preinstalled Norton has a firewall separate from Windows firewall. Take a look at that, I'd suggest turning it off, at least temporarily to see if that's an issue.

    Battery:
If you want to, you can even take out the battery completely, only running from the AC alone.

    Network:
Make sure about your IP addresses. Make your laptop:

    IP: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0

    And the pc:

    IP: 192.168.0.2
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0

It should work. Sometimes when you leave the setting on default (Obtain IP automatically), you won't see the other laptop/pc.

Thanks a lot m394byt3. It worked like a charm.

Another question. Is it ok to leave a laptop downloading unattended while leaving it on hibernate mode? If it's not then will it be fine if I just pull out the batteries while it's downloading?

I found things ran better after getting rid of Norton. AVG and SafetyNet are both free and work well.

If your laptop goes into hibernate mode, the downloading will stop. So in this case I would say remove battery. (if you want to extend the battery life on the LOOOONG term) BUT in the same breath I spend alot of time downloading myself but I keep my battery in and my AC on. If you do this make sure your power saver settings are set to ALWAYS ON (so it does not go into hibernate/standby). The reason I keep my battery in is because when my battery starts to "wear" out (after year or 2, depends on usage), I will just buy me another one, prices will drop and I will then have an extra battery to take with when traveling. :)

    Thanks again.

After taking a short sleep, I realized some problems about this Thinkpad. One is the creak on the left side of the touch pad. My guess is that the bottom left's screw might just be loose.

But that's another story since I don't want to hijack this thread.
