I apologize if this is a redundant post.
I'm looking for advice on the "best" display in the 14/15 inch line (including W series). I'm used to IPS displays and never did like my W500 display much. I'm using an X220 now which is a little too small and want to upgrade to something larger. Prior to this I used a modded T60p with FlexView that has an awesome display but is a little slow by today's standards.
Any opinions on which version / flavor of screen provides the best contrast, brightness and colors?
Thanks!

Assuming T/W530 continues to use the same AOU FHD 1920x1080 15.6" panel in T/W510 and T/W520, I'd vote it to be "best" in the ThinkPad line.

by far the best. it calibrated out close to your 8 bit dell pro IPS and right on par with Apple Cinema display with a bit worse viewing angles ( its TN afterall )
former flexview user here as well, if your ever bored try putting the 2048x1536 qxga screen in the 60p -
No question. It's not IPS, but it's one of the best TN panels out there at the moment.

Why is it we can't get the same quality of the 15.6" FHD screen in the 14" models? Is that really too much to ask? It doesn't need to be IPS or retina level pixel density.
And the question remains unanswered about the Carbon screen. What the heck is going to be on the premier ThinkPad? -
Another aggravating factor is that the T4x0(s) screen "quality" has been all over the map.
Also, certain people keep citing X220 IPS upgrade as a highlight of Lenovo's latest screen "innovation," one must keep in mind that that panel has not been without its various irritating problems, such as leaking and ghosting. These are not imagined problems to be reasoned away, as Lenovo at one point decided to "do something about it."
Whereas, the FHD 15.6" panel has been consistent through two generations. (I don't buy the 2012 T/W530, for business and personal use, so no comment.)
Monitor ID: LEN40B2 / Monitor Name: AU Optronics B156HW01 v4
B156HW01 V4 is matte; B156HW01 V7 glossy (Dell XPS 15 and certain Clevo/Sager models)
Precisely.
Why? Because the 15.6" FHD screen is happenstance and not a design pursuit.
I suspect the X1 Carbon will have the same lousy HD+ 1600x900 panel (or, rather, all-over-the-map panels) used in the T430(s). -
did anyone ever find a suitable upgrade panel for the t420/430? i'm going to have this laptop for at least another year, and every day the screen annoys me, i can't get used to it.

Look at the preliminary reviews so far. Unless it's going to change between the samples sent to some reviewers so far (Andrew has one), the X1C has a pretty high-quality TN display. Viewing angles are good, but not as good as an IPS display. Colors are nice as well, from what I can see and from some reviewer comments.
The only things that worry me about the X1C are the price and battery life.
The problem is that there are so few nice 14" HD+ displays on the market. The Envy 14 Radiance screen (14.5") was great, but it's discontinued. The Envy 14 Spectre has a similar (slightly smaller) screen that has also received nice reviews. But short of those models, there's not a lot of options. -
the W510 FHD screen is 95% colour gamut, 10bit x 3 using the quadro.
if the t530/w530/w520/t520 mantain this screen, it is fantastic. i never see any other screen like mayne W510 FHD.

No, in the offical presentation of the X-series is noted, that the X1 Cabon has a 300-350nits panel. Not clear if IPS or not.

Interesting!
Maybe I won't have to get a bulky T530 After all. Love my t400s and while the Contrast is really Bad at least it doesn't have the Screen door effect Seen on the t420s. -

I was looking at the Russian mobile site yesterday that posted some pics a couple of weeks ago. The X1C screen in their pics looked pretty damn good. I think Lenovo was smart enough to understand if they ship the carbon with a crap screen, they will get roasted on the internet.
As for the price, I haven't seen them yet but consider other Lenovo models. Do you really think the X1C is going to be at a lower price point than the U300s? I'd love to buy an 8GB RAM 256GB SSD X1 Carbon for $1200 but it simply isn't going to happen. The MacBook Air with that config is $1599. I don't see Lenovo pricing the X1C aggressively below that. -
@Thors.Hammer,
have you seen this test here:
Google Übersetzer
335 cd/m², 400:1 contrast (which is more than prior 14" HD+ screens whcih only had about 160:1).
But we must wait for an accurate test from notebookcheck before we can judge the screen finally. -
I think that's due to two factors:
1) Different panels. IIRC there are at least three different models of panel used in the T4[2|3]0(s) (and possibly different revs within those models).
2) Different usage, causing the matte coating on the AUO panels to be more or less noticable.
None of the panels are great though. -

I have now. Thanks. Looks like the panel is pretty good. Now people will be wanted that panel for their T430 or T430S.
-
Could it be that Lenovo is exhausting the stock of current 14" displays before making this available for the T4xxx series? One can always hope! So don't spoil my fantasy...
-
That's certainly possible and wouldn't be without precedent.
-
Lenovo is really dropping the ball here. Look at Apple screens. And look at their sales. See a correlation??? Of course! Is an IPS option too much to ask? I think not. PAY ATTENTION LENOVO you are losing sales that you do not need to lose.

Lenovo pushes more laptops than Apple does actually...
Best Display in T430/T430s/T530 line?
